Planned Parenthood’s New Gender Identity Push

With Congress in recess until the end of August, we have a chance to catch up on a couple of things.

For the last several weeks, Planned Parenthood has pushed its new “gender identity” initiative across the country. Basically the organization has taken it upon itself to instruct parents, educators, and politicians on the “fact” that whether a person is male or female has nothing to do with his sexual organs or chromosomes. PP says that, upon a person’s birth, the doctor cannot tell if the baby is male or female. He simply assigns a sex based on the baby’s genitals. Planned Parenthood wants everyone to understand the difference between sex, gender, and gender identity. Planned Parenthood claims:

  • Sex is a label—male or female—that you’re assigned by a doctor at birth based on the genitals you’re born with and the chromosomes you have. It goes on your birth certificate.
  • Gender is much more complex. It’s a social and legal status—a set of expectations from society about behaviors, characteristics, and thoughts. This is also generally male or female. But instead of being about body parts, it’s more about how you’re expected to act because of your sex.
  • Gender identity is how you feel inside and how you express your gender through clothing, behavior, and personal appearance. It’s a feeling that begins very early in life. According to PP, your feelings about your gender identity begin as early as age 2 or 3!

What nonsense! Based on this illogical reasoning, Planned Parenthood tells parents that they must be sensitive about their 2-year-old’s gender feelings. Colors (pink or blue), clothes (dresses or pants), and other things should not be used based on the sex assigned at birth. One of the proponents of this crazy idea says that the most harmful thing you can say to a young boy is that he should strive to one day be a good man.

You can read all about the latest crazy scheme from Planned Parenthood on its website. Watch for this in your schools and clubs and root it out quickly. We can only imagine the kind of mixed-up young adults who will emerge from this kind of nonsensical teaching.

In an announcement this week, Planned Parenthood said that its center in Farmington, New Mexico, will remain open. Earlier this year PP said it would close three centers in New Mexico, including the one in Farmington. At the time it attributed the closing to “reduced patient volume.” Now, PP says it has received enough donations to keep the center open. In other words, as long as it can be assured of making a profit, Planned Parenthood keeps doors open.

Finally this week, Planned Parenthood in Virginia said that it will spend $3 million to get the Democratic candidate for governor elected this November. That candidate supports abortion and the continued funding of Planned Parenthood. His opponent does not. Back in February, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, described her organization as “non-partisan.” Somehow, spending $3 million to get a particular candidate elected does not sound non-partisan to me.
