Planned Parenthood is taking it on the chin!

We are always happy to hear news that makes it clear that the American public is growing less and less confident in the evil wares Planned Parenthood markets as “health care.”  But the best news is always the action of elected officials who defy the odds by standing up and making it clear that taxpayer dollars should not be going to abortion profiteers like Planned Parenthood.

The most recent example of this heroic effort comes from the state of Virginia, where the state senate voted to ban taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. It took a tie-breaking vote to win this victory but the fact is good triumphed over evil in the Virginia State Senate.

What is perhaps most amazing about the vote is that the Democrats control the state Senate, and yet they did the right thing!  Glory be to God.

I do not know how things are going to work out in the Virginia house of delegates, though it is clear that the amendment should have smooth sailing since the house has been trying for some time to cut off this funding.

The most important thing to remember in all this is that the tide is turning against Planned Parenthood.  Their veneer of respectability is cracking, and as it does more and more preborn children will be spared.  We are well aware that politicians are usually the last ones to see the moral imperative involved in doing something as courageous as cutting the money from any organization that is aligned with abortion rights, and so this is a double victory in my eyes.

Which brings me to the second good news about Planned Parenthood’s public image.  The Catholic Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas has publicly called for its parishes and schools to end support for the fund raising activities of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity.  The diocese is encouraging Catholics to write to the Komen headquarters in Dallas and ask them to stop funding Planned Parenthood.

Commenting on this action, Marianne Linane, diocesan Respect Life Director said “Komen for the Cure also supports embryonic stem-cell research and denies the link between abortion and breast cancer.”

It is encouraging to see Catholic dioceses becoming so active in the quest to protect the innocent from those organizations that perpetuate the lie that abortion is “safe” and that contraception is a good idea.

All in all the past few days have not been good ones for Planned Parenthood.  We pray that the trend continues!
