Disaffiliated San Francisco Planned Parenthood Mired in Financial Woes, Gorged Salaries

Washington, D.C. (10 August 2010) – As news that Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, a high-profile California abortion mill, has been disaffiliated from Planned Parenthood Federation of America (its parent organization), American Life League drew attention Tuesday to the organization’s gorged salaries and financial mismanagement.

ALL called for renewed investigations of other affiliates that are drawing heavily on the nation’s overextended tax coffers.

“For over three years, Planned Parenthood Golden Gate has been recklessly spending our tax dollars under abysmal financial management,” said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League. “As more and more Planned Parenthoods either fold or become embroiled in scandal, the nation can no longer afford to fund these culturally and financially bankrupt organizations.”

Sedlak cited data from PPGG’s last three Form 990s – the mandatory IRS accountability documents filed every year by nonprofit organizations.

  • In 2006, PPGG reported a total income of $21,411,058, total payroll expenses of $11,704,612 and a profit of $13,927.
  • In 2007, PPGG reported a total income of $22,345,629, total payroll expenses of $11,963,224 and a loss of $181,286.
  • In 2008, PPGG reported a total income of $22,462,767, total payroll expenses of $13,801,387 and a loss of $1,883,459.
  • Between fiscal years 2007 and 2008, PPGG’s payroll expenses increased by $1,838,163, with absolutely no increase in total income. Thus, the total $1.8-million loss can be accounted for by increased payroll expenses.

In the above-cited years, PPGG received $38,783,043 in tax funding.

Sedlak pointed to PPGG’s increased salary expenditures of $1.8 million in the same year it reported operating at a $1.8-million deficit.

“As more and more financial scandals break at Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, the time is long overdue for a national investigation,” Sedlak said.

“If it were not for our tax dollars, Planned Parenthood would already be out of business. We now know that the majority of Americans are pro-life. So they are therefore unlikely to want to support the nation’s largest abortion chain,” Sedlak said. “It is a profound injustice to use Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars to fund a business most Americans agree is cold-blooded infanticide.”
