ALL Asks for Intercession of Gunned-Down Priest as Kenya Votes on Constitution

Washington, D.C. (04 August 2010) – American Life League president Judie Brown called for prayer and fasting as Kenyans vote today on a new constitution that would enshrine abortion as a right.

Brown asked supporters to seek the spiritual intercession of the now-famous Rev. John Kaiser, a Mill Hill missionary priest who was gunned down in 2000 after confronting the Kenyan government on human rights violations. Kaiser was also an outspoken advocate for recognition of the human rights of preborn children, working with Human Life International and pro-life hero Rev. Paul Marx.

American Life League’s senior congressional liaison, Johanna Dasteel, is Kaiser’s cousin. “My cousin was assassinated by the Kenyan government in 2000 for supporting the rights of Kenya’s marginalized poor,” Dasteel said. “He loved the Kenyan people and was martyred while trying to protect them and advocate on their behalf in the face of a violent, corrupt and greedy government. This impending pro-abortion constitution would have grieved him greatly.”

Although its people have long suffered under a corrupt government, the laws of Kenya have historically protected the right to life of preborn human beings as equal persons. The Obama administration has spent $23 million lobbying on behalf of the new constitution – offering cash and aid incentives to the suffering nation if the new constitution is ratified.

“How dare the Obama administration attempt to impose our twisted American culture of death on the Kenyan people!” Brown declared. “Have they not suffered enough bigotry and exploitation at the hands of the West already? Why do we now feel compelled to spread our national scourge of abortion to them as well?”

“We are begging God, through the intercession of pro-life martyr Father John Kaiser, to spare Kenya the pain, injustice and bigotry of abortion,” Brown said. “Father John laid down his life on behalf of the poorest and most marginalized Kenyans. Once again, we are seeking his prayer before the throne of God on behalf of Kenya’s poorest and for those who might soon be its most abandoned persons: its preborn children.”

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
