Pro-Life This Week: July 30, 2021

Week in Review – The flag is ready, Amicus Briefs have been filed, and Dr. Wen disses PP

The pro-life movement has adopted a pro-life flag. Two weeks ago, we told you about the effort to have a flag to represent the pro-life movement and urged you to vote for your favorite design. The winner has now been announced. It was “Flag F” in the voting order. A two-color flag with a large image of the Precious Feet. You can view the winning design and get information on how to order it by going to The Pro-Life Flag Project.

We told you last week about the Supreme Court Dobbs case. There has been a great deal of discussion and action on the case this week as this was the last week for individuals and groups to submit Amicus Briefs. As expected, most groups, including the state of Mississippi and over 300 members of congress, are using this case to ask the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade. We explained last week that overturning Roe is not enough. We need the Supreme Court to declare the obvious – that every preborn child is a human being – a person – and must be afforded the constitutional right to LIFE, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness. You can see our full discussion from last week here.

Big news in the abortion fight this week was provided by Dr. Leana Wen, former president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Dr. Wen released a book this week, Lifelines: A Doctor’s Journey in the Fight for Public Health. In it, Wen reveals just how much Planned Parenthood is dedicated to killing babies.

Wen wrote about her very first day on the job when she appeared on The View and discussed her new role. The former Commissioner of Health for the City of Baltimore discussed on air her admiration for Planned Parenthood and how she saw her job as enhancing and expanding Planned Parenthood’s role of providing great health care for women. She wrote that she was very pleased with her appearance and felt happy when it was all over.

But, as the Daily Citizen reported, “… she quickly received a text message from a board member, who said, ‘Next time, make sure you talk about abortion.’ It didn’t end there. A national staffer told her, ‘You need to talk about abortion at every media interview. You’re the president of Planned Parenthood. People expect that from you.’”

Wen made it clear that she is “pro-choice” and has no problem with abortion, but her vision for Planned Parenthood was that it should focus on total women’s reproductive healthcare, and it was not doing that. In her first months on the job, Wen traveled to many of Planned Parenthood’s centers and found the workers there supportive of her vision. However, as the Daily Citizen noted, “… the New York office, where staff members are likely paid considerably more than those at the local level, were uninterested in anything but abortion.”

Thus, from day one on the job, Wen became aware that Planned Parenthood did not want to become the health care organization she envisioned. As the Insider reported, “Dr. Leana Wen was given an ultimatum: Change her strategy as president of Planned Parenthood or leave.”

“Wen was struggling to make a decision when she learned she’d suffered a miscarriage, something that “was devastating in a way that I couldn’t have anticipated … The pain was compounded by others in her organization suggesting she use the loss to explain her departure in July 2019. “This was offensive and hurtful on so many levels,” Wen wrote.”

While Wen’s lawyer was negotiating how her resignation would be handled, the Planned Parenthood board voted her out. She learned about it in a news alert on her cell phone.

Wen’s book confirms what we already knew. Planned Parenthood is all about killing babies through abortion.

ALL in the News – Hugh Brown Says Marie Claire Magazine Argues “killing for the sake of killing”; Marian Blue Wave Continues to Sweep the Nation

This week, American Life League executive vice president, Hugh Brown, was interviewed by One News Now. Brown discussed a Marie Claire article that urged “Hollywood to depict more parents having abortions and claiming that children born in poor homes are better off if their mother aborts all other subsequent pregnancies.”

ALL’s program, the Marian Blue Wave, continues to grow with more than 4,000 prayer partners signed up on the interactive map. The Marian Blue Wave asks Catholics to commit to saying a Rosary once a week for the specific intentions of ending all abortion, shutting down all Planned Parenthood and abortion facilities, and for the protection of our Lord in the Eucharist.

Video of the Week – A 12-year-old child with progeria accomplishing what others likely doubted.

While every US gymnast may not be an Olympic gold medalist, there are gymnasts winning the hearts of America. Take Zoey, for instance—a 12-year-old child with progeria accomplishing what others likely doubted—competing in a gymnastic floor routine, proving once more that God makes heroes in all shapes and sizes.

Action Item of the Week – Contact your U.S. senators now!

The battle over the Fiscal Year 2022 spending bills continues in the United States Congress. Just yesterday, the House of Representatives (which is controlled by Democrats) voted to exclude the popular, bipartisan Hyde Amendment from the annual Appropriations Bill. Tragically, this exclusion of Hyde allows federal taxpayer dollars to directly fund all abortions.

We have been telling you about all the threats to preborn babies that are contained in the various bills that have been making their way through the House. Now, these bills will be heading to the Senate.

Congress, historically, is not in session during the month of August. According to the 2021 Senate calendar, the Senate will be out of session from August 7 through September 12. That will leave just 12 in-session days in September for the senators to approve the budget before the statutory deadline of September 30.

HOW TO CONTACT YOUR SENATOR:

To find the address and phone number of your senators’ local offices, go to www.senate.gov, click on “Senators,” then click on “State,” then click on each senator’s name or picture. You will be taken to the senator’s page. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find the address and phone numbers of the senator’s offices in your state.

Contact the nearest office and tell them you (and a small group, if you have one) want to meet with your senator. Don’t wait! Schedule your appointment as soon as possible.

Pro-life Social Media – Heretical Catholics for ‘Choice’ Weighs in on Withholding Communion

As you might have guessed, Catholics for Choice is not in favor of denying Communion to its abortion allies. Who can blame it, really? If you don’t believe in the Real Presence, then denying pro-aborts a piece of bread becomes political posturing. But C4C felt the need to address the matter of withholding Communion in a way that proves the abortion organization doesn’t know what it’s talking about.

Granted, a clergyman “accused” has a right to due process. A priest found guilty will find himself in prison where he would be better served by a minister who could discern his worthiness to receive the sacraments.

Those committing “violence against indigenous people” is unclear. Nevertheless, no one is arguing that people committing other serious abuses should NOT be denied Communion. But to C4C’s question with regard to denying Communion to notorious, moral sinners . . . well, OF COURSE! If C4C understood the matter correctly, it could distinguish between persons whose sinful behavior is well known versus private citizens whose sinful behavior is not well known.
