Pro-Life This Week: November 10, 2023

The Journal of Urology recently published a pro-abortion article urging urologists around the country to boycott events in states with laws restricting or prohibiting abortion. It said in part: “The decision to host professional meetings in states without unimpeded access to reproductive health care should be critically evaluated. Such choices have far-reaching implications for female physicians attending these events, as well as the integrity and credibility of the organizations involved.”

Richard Watson—a pro-life urologist—urges other urologists and people in general to “act on the courage of their convictions, unintimidated by cancellation culture.” He encourages, “Let’s take a bold stand in support of the smallest, most defenseless of our patients and their mothers—and fathers, too!”

He suggests the following ways to make your voice heard:

1. Contact the editor of The Journal of Urology to express disappointment that they would exploit this “forum” for the very partisan, one-sided promotion of an extremist agenda.

Pro-Life Efforts Fall Short in Ohio, ALL Calls on Bishops to Uphold Canon 915 and Protect Human Life from the Pulpit

This week, pro-lifers lost in Ohio as voters passed “Option 1” by 56%. Option 1—a ballot initiative backed by Planned Parenthood—now enshrines abortion into the state’s constitution. Pro-lifers in Ohio fought hard to keep this from passing, including attempting to raise the threshold needed for the vote from 50% to 60%. Unfortunately, pro-lifers were outfunded by Planned Parenthood, to the tune of $75 million.

In an email to American Life League supporters, Hugh Brown lays the blame for the failure in Ohio on American bishops who refuse to protect Canon 915. The majority of American bishops have refused to withhold the Eucharist from politicians who claim to be Catholic, yet who work to enshrine abortion at the state and federal levels. Our president, Joe Biden, is a prime example.

This not only leads American Catholics to believe that abortion is not a major issue, but it leads to the degradation of the value of human beings. In his email, Hugh wrote:

For over five decades, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has refused to prioritize the defense and dignity of human life by enforcing Canon 915 to protect the Eucharist from sacrilege.

On Tuesday, a majority of self-professed Catholics in Ohio voted to enshrine abortion into their state constitution.

The Magisterium of the Catholic Church teaches us that if we accept the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin, the juxtaposition creates a contradiction—a crux—in each soul that does so. A contradiction in a nation where only 1 in 4 Catholics believes in the Real Presence of Christ.

Hugh asked ALL supporters to affirm those priests and bishops who DO speak the truth and to hold accountable those bishops who remain silent. He said, “We need to encourage faithful Catholics, faithful bishops, and faithful priests that they are not alone.”

20,000+ Bumper Stickers Mailed Out: “Help America Pray the Rosary”

This past week, a generous American Life League supporter offered to send free bumper stickers to Marian Blue Wave prayer partners. Encouraged by the fearlessness and faithfulness of these MBW prayer partners, the ALL supporter offered to send a bundle of bumper stickers that read “Help America Pray the Rosay” to anyone who wanted some.

The response was overwhelming! As of today, more than 20,000 stickers have been mailed out, and another 100,000 were ordered to keep up with the demand.

Please join us in saying a prayer of thanksgiving for this supporter and for the repose of the soul of his late wife, Mary.

Culture of Life Studies Program

Advent begins in just a few weeks! The time leading to Christmas is incredibly special—especially for families. At the Culture of Life Studies Program, we know how hectic this time of year can be. That’s why we created a daily reflection guide. Now you and your family can take time out of your busy days to reflect upon the gift we will receive on December 25.

Awaiting the Gift of Christ: Walking with the Saints This Advent uses the lives of the saints and words of wisdom from the Catechism of the Catholic Church to enrich your journey through Advent in just a handful of minutes every day.

Each entry offers a teaching from the Catechism, a story of a saint who lived that teaching, a short reflection, and concrete examples for what you can do as a family to live out that teaching. It’s a beautiful way to strengthen your relationship with God.

Christ’s birth is an immense gift, but His death and Resurrection are what saved us and give us life. The days leading up to His birth should be a time of reflection, a time of thanks, a time to silence the world and allow God to enter our hearts, and a time to draw our families close. ORDER HERE

Catholics for Choice Over the Moon for Pro-Abortion Election Victory

Pro-life advocates scored more losses after Tuesday’s election. Ohio voters chose “Yes” to a constitutional protection of murdering preborn children.  Virginia voters handed pro-abortion Democrats the House and the Senate in order to prevent a proposed 15-week limit on preborn killing. While pro-life political organizations lick their wounds, pro-abortion groups like the heretical Catholics for Choice took to X to gloat.

Ohio’s 1851 Constitution states:

“All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.”

On Tuesday, Ohio voters added abortion to it. Who could have ever thought that the murder of preborn children would be added to the state’s rights?  What a difference 172 years makes.

Not by a long shot.

True. They expose children to pornography, mutilate their genitals, and kill them before they’re born.

Their faithfulness to the Magisterium is impressively bad, and our bishops need to do better at rebuking anti-Catholic campaigns that lead souls away from the Lord.
