WASHINGTON, D.C. (20 January 2020) – American Life League president Judie Brown issued the following statement regarding Kansas proposals SCR 1613 and HCR 5019:
American Life League absolutely opposes the compromise and unprincipled language contained in Kansas proposals SCR 1613 and HCR 5019—the Value Them Both proposed amendment to the state constitution.
The language is fraudulent in that it will not protect expectant mothers and their pre-born children from the heinous act of abortion but instead proposes to regulate the killing. Just as regulating the gas chambers in Nazi Germany would have been unthinkable, so too this proposal is unthinkable. This is not a pro-life initiative but is rather a bogus proposal based on political consensus. As such, this proposal must be stopped. No pro-life Kansan can abide such a travesty. The betrayal of pro-life principle contained in this fraud must be exposed for what it is.
American Life League is the nation’s oldest grassroots, Catholic, pro-life organization. Its president, Judie Brown, has led the organization since its 1979 beginning. She has served three terms on the Pontifical Academy for Life—appointed twice by Pope John Paul II and again by Pope Benedict XVI.
