American Life League Reveals ACOGs Deliberate Disinformation

Pill Controversy Clarified in Online Video

Washington, D.C. (03 June 2008) – In preparation for Protest the Pill Day ’08: The Pill Kills Babies, American Life League released a video report revealing how the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists deliberately altered the definition of pregnancy in order to make the birth control pill and IUD ‘marketable.’

“In 1965, ACOG changed the definition of conception to mean implantation,” said Marie Hahnenberg, researcher for American Life League and project manager of Protest the Pill Day. “Since they define pregnancy as ‘the state from conception to expulsion of the products of that conception,’ and the definition of abortion is ‘the disruption of a pregnancy’ they gave drug companies the language they needed in order to avoid labeling the birth control pill as an abortifacient.”

The video report, which can be viewed on our YouTube channel, explains how the birth control pill prevents implantation in the uterus by drying up blood vessels along the uterine wall.  Despite ACOG’s definition, this is an abortion because it ends the life of a human being.

"Yesterday, Feministing published an article by Dr. Dana Stone, attacking our statement that the birth control pill causes abortion as 'medically inaccurate,'” said Hahnenberg.  “But then, just a few paragraphs later confirmed our position by saying, ‘Other effects of the pill can … thin the uterine lining – all simply to keep a fertilized egg from implanting if ovulation does occur.’  A ‘fertilized egg’ is a human being, an innocent preborn child. Thus, the doctor says our primary claim is wrong and then describes how the pill works – which is exactly the way we claim it works.”

Protest the Pill Day ’08 is Saturday, June 7.  Pro-lifers across the nation will be holding protests outside of Planned Parenthood facilities and other locations where the birth control pill is sold.
