American Life League Responds to Attack on Catholic Education and Religious Freedom

Washington, DC—San Francisco archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has come under increasing pressure after clarifying Catholic school policies in his archdiocese in order to safeguard Catholic identity. Reports surfaced showing that a high-priced public relations firm headed by Sam Singer has been employed to attack the archbishop and dissuade him from enacting the clarifications.

Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued a statement in defense of Archbishop Cordileone:

Odd how it works! When an archbishop steps forward in “the land of the free and the home of the brave” and reiterates his defense of Catholic teaching, the devil cannot stand it. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has every right to demand that children in his Catholic schools be taught the tenets of the Catholic faith by teachers who not only teach it, but live it. How quick the opposition is to attack him and deny him the religious freedom that permits him to act out of justice and love for the truth.

Further investigation into the enemies of Archbishop Cordileone and his defense of truth will reveal the sordid underbelly of an ugly effort in this nation to stifle moral truth, deny that God exists, and eradicate freedom to learn about Christ in the public square, not to mention in Catholic schools owned and operated by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. We applaud Archbishop Cordileone and we stand with him in this, his finest hour. We condemn those who attack the truth, be it from the LGBT community, the abortion rights community, or anywhere else where evil lurks.

American Life League’s vice president, Jim Sedlak, stated, “In an effort to spin the responsible actions of this heroic bishop in order to garner opposition to him, his opponents have hired a PR expert to spin the truth to their advantage. We will be mobilizing our constituents to storm heaven with prayer and to let the archbishop know he is not alone.”
