‘We Will Not Hide Our Problems:’ N.J. Gov. Chris Christie Proposes Defunding Planned Parenthood

Washington, D.C. (18 March 2010) – American Life League commends New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his morally and fiscally responsible move to defund all so-called “family planning services” in the 2011 state budget.

Over seven million New Jersey tax dollars were spent last year funding groups such as Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain.

New Jersey reportedly has the second highest teen pregnancy rate in the United States.

“So, today, we stop sweeping problems under the rug,” Gov. Christie said in his budget speech to the state legislature March 16. “We will not hide our problems until another day.  And we are certainly not increasing the tax burden we place upon our people.”

The national director of American Life League’s STOP Planned Parenthood project, Rita Diller, lauded the move.

“Clearly, the millions of dollars New Jersey has thrown at organizations like Planned Parenthood have stoked the problem of teen pregnancy,” Diller said. “Little wonder, when Planned Parenthood spends that tax money on programs that promote promiscuous sexual activity while at the same time protecting child predators and targeting the minority communities.”

“Birth control and abortion do not help our youth,” Diller continued, “they have been shown to make problems worse. Let’s start from the basics and provide real help for our children – eliminate all forms of government money from the coffers of Planned Parenthood.”

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
