NRLC and the ERA

Many of us who are veterans in the pro-life movement understand the demeaning nature of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the underlying philosophy which suggests that men and women are equal in every way. And I do mean every way!

We understand that the proponents of the newly revived ERA favor homosexuality, abortion, contraception, lurid sex education and anything else that places human sexuality on a par with grocery shopping. In other words, denying all the differences between men and women while suggesting that somehow women have been classified as second class citizens because they are in fact women.  The whole philosophy is garbage.

So boy was I shocked to read that the National Right to Life Committee is urging senators not to support the Equal Rights Amendment, currently called the Women's Equality Amendment, unless it contains language preventing tax-funded abortion on demand.

Does this mean that privately funded abortions, sex ed programs focused on promiscuity, lesbian rights campaigns, and so on ad nauseum would be OK with NRLC?

Talk about inconsistency; this takes the cake. Joining forces with the likes of NOW, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood if a simple no-tax-funding-for-aortion caveat is added to the amendment makes no sense to me at all.

What is the NRLC's agenda … really? I guess we can figure that out by reading the following quote:

The NRLC is urging the Senate to adopt "abortion neutral" language originally proposed by Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) in 1983. It says, "Nothing in this Article [the ERA] shall be construed to grant, secure, or deny any right relating to abortion or the funding thereof."

God save us from compromise.
