Namby-Pamby Politicians and Preborn Babies

By Judie Brown

This week has been a lulu for preborn babies! Just days ago the US Department of Health and Human Services announced the cancellation of the Food and Drug Administration’s $15,900 contract with Advanced Bioscience Resources to provide fresh “human fetal tissue” for transplantation into mice to create human-like immune systems.

This action was the result of a September 17 letter signed by 85 members of Congress asking the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration to “cancel this contract immediately and utilize alternative, modern scientific techniques that do not contribute to the trafficking in baby body parts.” The letter further stated that “unborn children are not commodities to be bought and sold. The practice of conducting research using the body parts of children whose lives have been violently ended by abortion is abhorrent.”

In addition, the Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services has launched a comprehensive review of human fetal tissue research. The point of this review is to ensure that the research is in compliance with government rules and regulations.

The Food and Drug Administration had been acquiring tissue from aborted baby body parts for some time in order to conduct research involving the study of the human immune system. This research has now come to an end. Or has it?

The Center for Medical Progress recently issued a chilling warning about such research in view of the canceled contract. Its statement read, in part: “So long as HHS trades taxpayer dollars for freshly-aborted baby body parts, the U.S. government is setting its own abortion quotas and sending the message that these children are worth more dead than alive. By terminating a grotesque contract for ‘fresh aborted baby parts from Planned Parenthood’s business partners ABR that never should have been signed in the first place, HHS has taken a small first step to stop the epidemic of trafficking tiny baby hearts, lungs, livers, and brains from late-term abortion clinics into government-sponsored laboratories for taxpayer-funded experimentation. HHS’s mission to ‘serve all Americans from conception to natural death cannot permit trafficking unborn children to stitch their body parts into lab rats.

As if this isn’t sickening enough, we have a question for our spineless elected officials. Why haven’t the Republicans in the House and Senate—the majority party members and people elected by folks like you and me—put an immediate moratorium on all such research? We thought they were pro-life! Isn’t that what they tell us when they campaign at home? Or is pro-life a convenient euphemism for the “just don’t ask me to do anything” elected official?

And why is it that these same Republicans, especially those in the Senate, go out of their way to make sure funding for big abortion companies like Planned Parenthood is not cut off? Recently the Senate majority showed its lack of will by voting 45-48 to protect Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer dollars.

Like I said, spineless. Perhaps these politicians didn’t realize the facts about Planned Parenthood. Maybe they have been sleeping under rocks for the last 40 years.

The business partnership between Planned Parenthood and Advanced Bioscience Resources made it possible for ABR to sell baby body parts to the Food and Drug Administration in the first place. Yes, that’s right. Grotesque does not seem strong enough to define this alliance, let alone the political reality that nobody seems to care enough to stop paying for it. Using our tax dollars to facilitate such deadly crimes against the human person should not be occurring in our nation, but it is.

Political backsliding costs human lives. Namby-pamby politicians are enabling Frankenstein-like research, and sadly this has been the case for more than 40 years.

The babies deserve justice!
