When a family member suffers, or is sick and dying, it is natural to want him to have the best care possible. But we must understand what proper care includes. A recent and tragic example explains why end-of-life care that supports the dignity of Christ’s children is of utmost importance.
In a city that’s gone bankrupt and is riddled with violence, it’s easy to get lost in hopelessness. But one organization wants to change this. One organization wants to bring hope and love to women and babies by teaching the value of preborn life. So although devastation abounds, optimism is not dead.
End-of-life care is a crucial component to healthcare and one that has received much attention lately. With the push for people to sign advance directives, and many not knowing the implications of their signature, education is key.

When I heard that Nancy Pelosi was going to receive Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award at its annual coven this year, I was about as shocked as when I found out that President Obama “evolved” on so-called same-sex marriage last year.
As we move further into Lent and toward Good Friday, the day Our Lord allowed Himself to be crucified so that we may have eternal life with Him, we reflect more and more on His suffering. While His crucifixion story had a glorious ending in His resurrection, there is no glorious ending to the daily crucifixion of thousands of preborn babies. Not only is a child needlessly slaughtered, but left behind are wounded mothers, fathers, siblings, and grandparents. What will it take to end this holocaust?
Catholic bishops and clergy have a responsibility to not only make their voices heard, but to teach those of the Catholic faith how to use their own voices. This means that the clergy must instruct and teach regularly about Catholic tenets and doctrine, yet we do not see this. As we see a continuing moral decline in our country, we realize now more than ever that we need to hear a roar rather than a whimper.
It’s normal to want to trust your doctor’s advice, to heed his every word when it comes to your own care, or the care of a loved one. You know he has taken the Hippocratic Oath and you believe he has your best interests at heart. But is that always the case? What happens when you have a serious or terminal illness? Will he still give you the care that everyone deserves? When it comes to POLST forms, education is key.
Two cases coming before the Supreme Court are a reflection of the morality inherent in our society today. Rampant sexuality and the use of contraceptives seem to be the new norm. And many think their right to contraceptives should be provided by our tax dollars. What example will the court provide?
