Week in Review

Six Years, How Many Rosaries?

October is Respect Life Month, and it’s the Month of the Holy Rosary, so why not combine them?

In October 2019, we launched the Marian Blue Wave, the world’s first and only global rosary campaign dedicated to praying specifically for an end to ALL abortion!

This was Jim Sedlak’s creation, and it has now become his legacy.

With more than 10,000 prayer partners (and counting), people in all 50 states and in more than 31 countries around the world have pledged to join us!

Here are some of our greatest victories from the last six years:

  • MBW prayer partners have prayed 3.5 MILLION rosaries.
  • 140 Planned Parenthood facilities have CLOSED (and still counting).
  • For an entire month in 2020 we prayed specifically that the MEGA PP facility in Texas would close. Today, it is closed for GOOD.

These are huge victories, and only God knows for certain the number of babies who have been saved and the lives that have been changed simply due to persistence and faith

This October, I invite you to join us. If you sign up for the Marian Blue Wave, you will receive a prayer reminder email from me every Monday morning (I promise, no spam and no asks!).

That’s it! Pray on your own time and with as many people as you can. All I request is that you include the intention of praying for an end to ALL abortion.

People ask me all the time how they can get involved and what they can do to help. This is my answer!Through prayer, action, and education, we can rebuild the culture of life!

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Affiliate Falls to Medicaid Defunding

On October 1, 2025, after decades of baby killing and scandals in Texas and Louisiana, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast officially shut down its operations. The affiliate joins 44 facilities that have also fallen victim to this year’s Medicaid defunding.

Melaney Linton, PPGC’s former president, blamed “political warfare” for the closure. She warned that PPGC is “not the first Planned Parenthood affiliate to face this reality, and we will not be the last.”

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast was created in 2010 when former affiliates PP of Houston and Southeast Texas (est. 1936) and PP of Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta (est. 1984) merged. It oversaw 13 facilities at the time of the merger, but only two in Louisiana and four in the Houston area remained by fall 2025.

The affiliate’s shuttering coincided with the closure of both facilities in Louisiana, making it the fourth state to be free of the abortion giant. Two PPGC facilities in Houston, Texas, closed on October 1 as well, including the infamous Prevention Park location, once the largest abortion mill in the country.

PPGC was the subject of several scandals, including the Center for Medical Progress’ shocking exposure of Planned Parenthood’s baby body parts business. Investigators captured Melissa Farrell, then PPGC’s director of research, discussing past payments made for the body parts of PP victims. You might remember her callously dismissing the splitting of a child’s body parts among multiple vendors as “just a matter of line items.”

Even as we celebrate this significant victory, we can’t forget that the current defunding has a time limit. In just a few months, Planned Parenthood can again rake in millions of our tax dollars. We must continue to fight for the permanent defunding and closure of every facility that murders precious preborn babies

Susan Ciancio, editor of Celebrate Life Magazine and director of the Culture of Life Studies Program, penned an op-ed stating that society will never have peace if we continue to support abortion. St. Carlo Acutis: Extraordinary in the Ordinary teaches high school students about the short yet impactful life of St. Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint. Carlo is a phenomenal example to today’s teens, as he lived a life focused on God and on doing good for those around him. Not only did he use his exceptional computer skills to create a website cataloging the Catholic Church’s approved Eucharistic miracles, but he fed the poor, helped clothe the homeless, spoke in favor of chastity and against abortion, and he taught catechism classes to young people. Carlo’s life exemplifies how living an ordinary life focused on God and Church teachings can become extraordinary because of faith, love of Jesus in the Eucharist, and generosity toward others. ORDER HERE

Thoughts of October may stir sentiments of sweaters, pumpkin spice, and the turning of leaves. But let’s not forget that October also means the Month of the Rosary (see the Marian Blue Wave) and Respect Life Month. American Life League’s contribution to Respect Life Month is the Culture of Life Studies Program’s annual Pro-Life Essay Contest. Faithful Catholic parents and teachers are encouraged to introduce the contest to their children and students. How can parents do this?

We connected with several Catholic radio programs and podcasts to explain the essay contest. In the recording below, Culture of Life Studies Program’s Susan Ciancio joins From the Median’s pro-life podcast to discuss the essay contest, Celebrate Life Magazine, and broader pro-life perspectives on current events.
