Pro-Life This Week: November 5, 2021

First:

We are saddened to bring you the news that Paul A. Brown, pro-life political activist, co-founder of American Life League, and husband of our president, Judie Brown, died yesterday, November 4, at his home surrounded by family. Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the entire Brown family. “Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace, Amen.”

In other news:

On Monday of this week, the Supreme Court held oral arguments concerning the Texas Heartbeat Law. As we explained last week, the questions from the justices focused on the way the law is enforced rather than the specifics of the abortions that the law does not permit—i.e., most abortions after a heartbeat can be detected.

The uniqueness of this law is that the state is specifically prohibited from enforcing the law. No law enforcement personnel or any other employee of the state is allowed to enforce the law’s requirements. The enforcement is left to ordinary citizens who can file lawsuits against any abortionist who commits the abortion after the heartbeat is heard. These same citizens can also sue anyone who facilitated the abortion. Presumably, that would include whoever drove the mother to the appointment, anyone who paid for some or all of the abortion fees, and, potentially, many more who were involved.

These are the points raised by the justices. Professional court watchers are always quick to point out that it is very difficult to listen to the questions and draw any conclusions on how the justices will eventually vote. In general, questions by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer seemed hostile to the enforcement provisions as written. Justices Alito and Kavanaugh seemed more accepting of the provisions. At one point, Chief Justice Roberts seemed to support Alito’s and Kavanaugh’s statements.

In the political realm this week, the state of Virginia, where ALL is headquartered, shocked the world of Democrats as the people elected Republicans to top state-wide positions for the first time since 2009. During the campaign, the new governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general all expressed positions supporting the need for the protection of preborn human beings.

The Democrats tried to make their support for unlimited abortions a major factor in choosing the next governor. Many campaign ads pushed the point that, if Republican

ALL in the News – Jim Sedlak Debates Pro-Abort, Dr. Rashad Richey; ALL Statement on Biden and Pope Francis Receives National Coverage

On Thursday, ALL executive director, Jim Sedlak, participated in a debate on the show, “Indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richey.” The two debated why all Planned Parenthood locations should be shut down.

Last Friday, ALL officials released a press statement on President Biden’s meeting with Pope Francis. ALL executive vice president, Hugh Brown, stated that “Joe Biden is no more Catholic than is Lucifer.” The statement was featured in nearly a dozen articles, the most notable being from The Boston Pilot,  Right Wing WatchCBN News, and Charisma News.

s were elected, Virginia would become the next Texas. The Democrats even had Joe Biden and Barack Obama do TV ads for their gubernatorial candidate. In the end, none of this worked.

Although the topic of abortion was clearly visible in the campaigns, most who have analyzed the voting results have concluded that the major reasons for the Democratic loss were the threat of Democrats not allowing parents to have influence on what schools teach their children and fears for the general economy.

Twice a week, Judie Brown’s commentaries are distributed to an expansive media list. The list contains over 100 media outlets such as Fox News, The Federalist, Breitbart, and The Daily Caller, among others. Judie’s Tuesday commentary, Babies on the Margins of Society, appeared on the ALL home page. Each commentary is also featured as a part of Judie’s recurring column on Renew America.

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. The show can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time). Each show features an update on what is happening in the pro-life world, and frequently guests will appear on the show to provide first-hand updates and experiences.

Action Item of the Week – Make your plans for December 1

We know December 1 seems like a long way off, but it is less than four weeks from today.

On December 1, the United States Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in a case involving a Mississippi law that regulates abortion for preborn babies who have reached a gestational age of 15 weeks or more.

Unlike the hearings on the Texas case, the case before the court that day, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (JWHO), will have SCOTUS examining the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, as well as the Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision of 1992, among others.

It is a case that has the potential for rewriting abortion laws in the nation.

At American Life League, we are praying that the justices will use this case to declare that, legally, every human being’s life begins at his or her creation, that a right to abortion does not exist, and that every abortion is illegal—without exception.

There will be a pro-life rally outside SCOTUS during oral arguments on December 1.

We are encouraging every pro-lifer to join the rally on December 1 from 8 am-noon in DC.

Can’t make it to DC? We understand that organizers will be live-streaming the event. As soon as it is available, we’ll bring you information on signing up to host a watch party, so you can see the action outside the court and possibly hear the oral arguments in real time on December 1.

Pro-life Social Media – ‘Get help’; Catholics For Choice Says We’re All Made in God’s Image

We’ve covered some truly awful takes from the heretics running the Catholics For Choice Twitter account.  A tweet this week surprised us, until we got to the #AbortionIsHealthcare hashtag.

“You are made in God’s image.”  That much is true.  We’re MADE in His Image, not BORN in it. Perhaps C4C should stop its advocacy for the destruction of the newly created Imago Dei.

Excellent idea. Afterwards, it should dissolve the organization.
