60% of Students Told Us ‘This Is My First Pro-Life Event’
Following the launch of American Life League’s newest project, Pro-Life Schools Week, ALL staff sent a survey to participating students and staff at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The survey results shed light on the success of the week and also on the critical importance of it.
We sent surveys to all 75 students and received results from about 50%. Of the 12 staff members who received the survey, 83% responded with feedback. These numbers and results allow us to measure how effective the week was and how we can improve future events. This is what we found:
- 60% of the students said it was their first pro-life event in school.
- 78% of the students said this week helped them understand what it means to be pro-life.
- 67% of the students said they now felt comfortable explaining a basic pro-life view to a peer.
- 55% of the students said they felt the events connected what it means to be pro-life to the Catholic faith.
- 87% of the staff gave the overall event a rating of 5/5.
- The staff rated the week 3/5 for how well they felt the event connected to the school’s culture-of-life mission.
- 78% of the staff said compared with other theme weeks or special events, they felt this week was much more worthwhile for students.
- 60% of the staff said students engaged in pro-life discussions or debates amongst themselves in the classroom that week in a constructive way.
- 100% of the staff said the school should run a similar event next year.
Our biggest takeaway from the event is how necessary this focus and education are for our Catholic schools. Sixty percent of the students said this was their first pro-life event in a school. With many of these students coming from Catholic or religious middle schools, this really highlighted the gap in Catholic education. Pro-Life Schools Week is a fantastic opportunity to present Catholic teaching on life topics, share no-exceptions pro-life education, and witness to our young people.
Overall, Pro-Life Schools Week is about planting seeds. We can present the information to these students, but we must pray and trust that the Holy Spirit will lead them to implement these values in their own lives and change the way they view those around them.

VIDEO: Every Patient Is a Person, No Matter How Small
The most common objection to banning abortion in all cases is the life-of-the-mother exception. Those who defend this position believe that there are pregnancies so life threatening that ending the life of the baby is the only means of saving the mother. While there are indeed dangerous pregnancies, there are no such conditions that can be cured by a lethal dose of potassium chloride into the baby’s amniotic fluid.
Dr. William Lile is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist who has seen a few of these “hard cases” in his decades of delivering babies. None of them required murder. Watch Dr. Life give concrete examples of how new techniques in modern medicine are saving lives:
