Pro-Life This Week – October 4, 2019

Week in Review – Planned Parenthood secrecy, New CLSP contests, New CMP Trial

Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLRSWMO) announced this week that it is opening a new mega-abortion facility at 317 Salem Place, Fairview Heights, Illinois. Planned Parenthood said that it has been building this facility, under a different name, for the last year. The facility is 18,000 square feet and will do abortions. Although Planned Parenthood did not say how late in the pregnancy it would commit abortions, the fact is that the laws of Illinois would allow PP to legally kill preborn children right up to delivery.

The new Planned Parenthood in Illinois is directly connected to the fight to close the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in St. Louis, Missouri. It is no coincidence that the Fairview Heights killing center is just 13 miles away from its St. Louis killing center. You may recall that the State of Missouri has been trying to close down the St. Louis abortuary and it is still open only because a judge has ordered Missouri not to close it.

PPSLRSWMO chief medical officer, Colleen McNicholas, told reporters that PP needed to keep the real purpose of this facility secret to avoid protesters and to make it easier to get local contractors to work on the facility. There is no telling how many pro-life and Christian contractors were traumatized this week as they found out the building they helped construct was going to be used to kill human beings.

In pro-life news this week, the Culture of Life Studies Program announced the launch of two efforts—the CLSP 2019 Pro-Life Essay Contest and the CLSP 2019 Coloring Contest. Sponsored by the Culture of Life Studies Program and the Institute for Excellence in Writing, this year’s essay contest is for students in grades 3-12. The essay contest offers students the chance to express their pro-life beliefs and win over $1700 in prizes (including cash and pro-life gear)! Deadline: December 6, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. You can find out all the details of the Essay Contest here.

If you have students in grades K-2, you can participate in CLSP’s first-ever pro-life coloring contest. Sponsored by the Culture of Life Studies Program and Holy Heroes, this is a unique opportunity for your younger children to participate in a fun effort and learn about the biblical description of the visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. They will color a drawing that features John leaping in the womb of Mary and win prizes. Deadline for the coloring contest is November 1, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time—just 4 weeks from now. You can find out details of the Coloring Contest here. If you have any questions about either of these contests, contact Mary Flores at mflores@cultureoflifestudies.com

While we are waiting for the October 18 disclosure of the judge’s decision on whether or not David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt will face a jury trial in the criminal case brought against them by the State of California, another legal proceeding just began. This week, jury selection, opening statements and initial witness testimony began in the federal civil trial of the founders of the Center for Medical Progress (David Daleiden, Troy Newman, Albin Rhomberg) and Sandra Merritt. In the case, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., et al v. Center for Medical Progress et al, Planned Parenthood is looking for monetary damages in this RICO lawsuit which maintains that the defendants are “racketeers” and have harmed Planned Parenthood’s business. One of the defendants, Troy Newman of Operation Rescue, characterizes the case this way: “While there are no criminal penalties associated with this civil case, Planned Parenthood is accusing Newman and the other defendants of violating the Racketeer-Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act for going undercover at Planned Parenthood and NAF meetings. Should they lose, Planned Parenthood is seeking $16 million from the pro-life defendants in addition to potentially crippling punitive damages and millions in attorney fees.” The presiding judge in the case, Judge William H. Orrick III, is a long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood, but has refused to recuse himself. Attempts by attorneys to have him removed from the case failed.

Please continue to pray for all involved in the court cases that have emerged since pro-lifers documented conclusive evidence that Planned Parenthood has been involved in the gruesome and illegal business of selling baby body parts from dead, and living, victims of abortion.
