Pro-Life This Week – October 1, 2021

Week in ReviewWomen’s Health Protection Act passes House because of Catholics

We told you last week that “Catholic” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was pushing to have the most dangerous pro-abortion bill in history voted on in the House. The so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021” (H.R. 3755) would write the right to an abortion into federal law and give the federal government control over which laws concerning abortion can be passed in each state. On Friday, the House Democrats passed the bill on a 218-211 vote.

There are 86 Catholic Democrats in the House and only one voted against the bill—Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas. None of the 55 Catholic Republican members of the House voted in favor of the bill.

So, with the almost unanimous support of Democrat Catholics, the House of Representatives passed the most draconian anti-life bill ever. In a Catholic Church that lived up to its mandate from God, and its own rules (i.e., Canon 915), you would expect the 80+ Catholics who voted for the bill to be prohibited from receiving Communion in Catholic churches across the country. But, with only few exceptions, this will not happen. Catholic bishops are still “discussing” the matter and will propose some kind of statement in November.

Now, against all odds and despite the filibuster making this legislation unlikely to pass in the Senate, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the US Senate Committee on Health, Education Labor & Pensions, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Lead Sponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, and Senator Richard Durbin, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following joint statement on House passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act: “We are currently seeing unprecedented and unconscionable Republican attacks on reproductive rights across the country laced with vicious vigilantism. Congress must assert its role to protect the constitutional right to abortion. We commend the House on the passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act and announce that the Senate will vote on this critical legislation in the very near future.” (Underline added)

Two of these four Senate leaders, Patty Murray and Richard Durbin, claim to be Catholics. There are only 22 Catholics in the 100-member US Senate, and two of them are taking the lead on trying to have the United States write the supposed right to kill a preborn child into our national laws.

In 2007, ALL president, Judie Brown, wrote a book entitled Saving Those Damn Catholics, about how the Church allows politicians to literally get away with murder, without any consequences. It’s 14 years later and not much has changed.

Please contact your two US senators and ask them to (1) protect the Senate filibuster rule—which means it would take 60 votes to get this bill through the Senate—and (2) vote NO if this bill comes up for a vote. We must prevent the efforts of the Democrat-controlled federal government to dictate the killing of preborn babies.

Also, please contact your bishop and ask him to make it clear, with canonical action, that you can’t be Catholic and pro-abortion.

ALL in the NewsJudie Brown Coins Nickname ‘Grandma Death’ for Pelosi; Video on Pro-life ‘Exceptions’ Reaches Facebook Audience

This week, Judie Brown’s Tuesday commentary was featured as an op-ed on CNS News. Titled Grandma Death, the commentary discussed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her vicious and relentless support of abortion. Judie Brown’s commentaries are distributed to an expansive media list. The list contains over 100 media outlets such as Fox NewsThe FederalistBreitbart, and The Daily Caller, among others. Each commentary is also featured as a part of Judie’s recurring column on Renew America.

Dwain Currier’s video on the history of exceptions in the pro-life movement was published on Facebook this week. The pro-life principle used to be that every preborn child’s life is sacred. Unfortunately, that has been downgraded by the “save as many lives as we can” principle. You can also watch the video on YouTube here.

ALL’s program, the Marian Blue Wave, continues to grow with more than 4,000 prayer partners signed up on the interactive map. The Marian Blue Wave asks Catholics to commit to saying a Rosary once a week for the specific intentions of ending all abortion, shutting down all Planned Parenthood and abortion facilities, and for the protection of our Lord in the Eucharist.

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. The show can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time). Each show features an update on what is happening in the pro-life world, and frequently guests will appear on the show to provide first-hand updates and experiences.

Action Item of the WeekLife Chain this Sunday

This Sunday is Life Chain Sunday. Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful effort that is a great “first-step” for anyone who has not been actively involved in bringing the message of life to his or her community.

Check the churches in your area and join a Life Chain in your town.

The Life Chain national website has this to say about its background and purpose:

OUR MISSION

For 33 years, Life Chains have formed across the United States and Canada—and the world—to make a public, prayerful, peaceful witness against legalized abortion. We stand united in prayer and repentance on the first Sunday of every October.

Life Chains are built upon the promise that God gave to His people in 2 Chronicles 7. God said to Solomon in verses 14-15, “[if] my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. My eyes will now be open and my ears attentive to prayer from this place.”

We believe that, as the body of Christ, and on the basis of Jesus’ blood, that we alone have the ability to petition God (Hebrews 10:19-25). We also believe that God alone has the ultimate power to intervene in our world. This puts Jesus-followers in a unique position; we have a duty to go before God on behalf of our nations.

Jesus and His apostles taught the Church many things about prayer. In Matthew 6:10, Jesus instructs His people to pray that “[God’s] will be done.” The Apostle John encourages the Church to pray confidently, writing that “If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). Similarly, the Apostle Paul urges the Church to “understand what the Lord’s will is” (Ephesians 5:17).

Our task is not simply to pray, but to pray God’s will. And what is His will? That His people would humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from evil. Then, He will hear, He will forgive, and He will heal. His eyes will open, and His ears will hear our prayers (2 Chronicles 7:14-15).

This is why, for the past 33 years, Life Chain has sought to lead the body of Christ in repentance and prayer regarding abortion. We exist as a call to the Church—to humble ourselves, pray, seek, and turn.

When we gather together, and come before our God, we believe that abortion will end.

Pro-life Social Media‘Just Wow.’ Post-Abortive Pastor Says God Was with Her

People will go to great lengths to justify their immoral actions. The contrite will seek forgiveness. The unrepentant will call an evil . . . good. Take the case of the pro-abortion. Laura Klassen of ‘The Magical Birth Canal’ found a “pastor” sharing her post-abortion testimony on the Shout Your Abortion website:

Was God with this pastor “the whole time’”?  True. But she said “no” to Him every step of the way.

If you think it’s God Who is guiding you on a path of self-destruction, well, that probably isn’t who you think it is.

Here’s a good rule to follow: If the evil you’re about to do feels like the right thing, that isn’t the Lord talking to you—it’s His enemy.
