Week in Review – Pasadena PP; UNPLANNED in Canada; Daleiden’s legal battle
The Pasadena Weekly carried a story yesterday about Planned Parenthood of Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley taking steps to “beef up security” at its main offices. The story gave nebulous reasons for the increased security, as there was no specific instance that has prompted it. We find it interesting that this story should appear just two weeks after American Life League executive director, Jim Sedlak, spoke at a number of meetings in the Pasadena area, assisting local residents in their efforts to oppose three new clinics (in Glendale, Baldwin Park, and Highland Park) that PP Pasadena is trying to open. Jim commented about yesterday’s story: “The people at our meetings were interested in peaceful, prayerful means of opposing Planned Parenthood. We encouraged them to follow the admonition of Matthew 10:16—‘Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.’ It may be that, as God-fearing men and women rise up in the Pasadena area, Planned Parenthood leaders understand the power of prayer but have no real answer. Maybe these folks think increased security presence will discourage God from answering the prayers of pro-life warriors. That, of course, would be a major miscalculation on Planned Parenthood’s part.”
The showing of the movie UNPLANNED in Canada has caused a great deal of controversy. The film was supposed to be shown in a number of theaters, but an orchestrated boycott of the theaters, combined with death threats against staff and management at the theaters, has caused some theaters to cancel the showings. One movie chain that has remained steadfast in its resolve to show the film in a small number of its theaters is Cineplex. The CEO of Cineplex, Ellis Jacob, published an open letter on its Twitter account (@CineplexMovies). One paragraph of the letter states:
“When I immigrated to Canada back in 1969, one of the things that I loved, and still love, the most about living here was that we didn’t shy away from our differences—we embrace them.”
Cineplex has gone forward with its plans to show UNPLANNED for a week at 14 of its 1,700 theaters. One of those locations reports that the showings of the movie are selling out.
The Thomas More Society, who is representing David Daleiden in defending against the numerous charges David still faces in California, announced this week: “Our Thomas More Society attorneys are heading back to the courtroom with David Daleiden on July 17th. . . . The judge will hear our motion for summary judgment in the Planned Parenthood civil case—at the same time he hears Planned Parenthood’s motion for summary judgment against David—so this is a huge deal . . . . Any claims or defenses disposed of during next week’s summary judgment proceedings will not be part of any jury trial before Judge Orrick. That jury trial remains scheduled for September 30th, right on the heels of the criminal preliminary hearing now set to begin before Judge Hite in San Francisco criminal court on September 3rd, the day after Labor Day.”
Also on July 17, “the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear our motion to dissolve the National Abortion Federation’s (NAF) ‘gag order’ injunction. That’s the gag order stopping David from releasing the rest of his video footage we contend could incriminate Planned Parenthood and other abortionists.”
Although you don’t hear about these cases from the major media, they are still going on. In addition to David, others suffering through these lawsuits include his co-undercover journalist, Sandra Merritt, and the original board members of the Center for Medical Progress—Troy Newman and Albin Rhomberg. Please remember all these individuals and their legal teams in your prayers as these cases move forward.

Vincent Lambert, the French citizen who suffered severe brain damage, dehydrated and starved to death this week. His Catholic parents fought to save his life in a battle against his wife and French authorities. The state will record his death as resulting from an automobile accident. In reality, he was murdered.

Action Item of the Week – National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children
On Saturday, September 14, 2019, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and the Pro-Life Action League will co-sponsor the 7th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, calling on pro-life Americans to honor the gravesites of our aborted brothers and sisters.
Solemn prayer vigils will be conducted at these gravesites, of which there are 52 across the United States, as well as at dozens of other sites dedicated in memory of aborted children.
LAST YEAR, the 6th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held on September 8, 2018, at 187 locations throughout the United States, with over 6,000 in attendance. Click here to see photos from some of the 2018 memorial services around the country!
Now is the time to start planning a Day of Remembrance near you.
You can be a very special part of the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children on Saturday, September 14, by hosting a memorial service at a gravesite in your community where aborted babies are buried. Volunteer leaders are needed at dozens of such sites across the country—see the list of gravesites of the aborted unborn to see where leaders are needed.
No burial place in your area? If there is no actual burial place of unborn children nearby, you can still take part by hosting a prayer service at any local memorial site dedicated to the unborn victims of abortion. There are hundreds of such sites all over the country, and chances are there’s one near you.
If you choose to host a National Day of Remembrance memorial service, you will be provided with numerous resources by the national organizing team, such as sample bulletin announcements, press release templates and a proposed program for your service.
