President Trump Proves Once Again That Babies Are Not the Priority

This week, President Trump urged Republican lawmakers to have “flexibility” on the federal Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funds to be used for abortions. Yet we know that it includes exceptions for rape, incest, or the mother’s health, so it doesn’t actually protect all babies.

Trump stated, “You have to be a little flexible on Hyde, you know that. . . . You gotta be a little flexible. You gotta work something. . . . We’re all big fans of everything. But you have to have flexibility.”

While this comes as no surprise to us at American Life League, many have responded with outrage that the president would suggest loosening Hyde. However, when we look at his track record and the policy decisions made by his administration, we know for certain that abortion is a political game and not about the babies. For example, Trump’s administration has refused to take action against the abortion pill, which is now the leading method of abortion in the United States. His administration has also gone to great lengths to promote and endorse IVF, which kills more babies than abortion does. And when given the chance to defund Planned Parenthood—the nation’s leading killer of babies—the president’s administration only defunded them for a single year and included loopholes and exceptions. So we must pray for the president and for his administration. He has made more of a commitment to life than others before him, but the sanctity of all human beings still does not seem to be the priority. Let us pray that the president will realize the value of every person—born and preborn—and see abortion as a direct attack on life and not a political game of ping-pong.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Rules on Abortion for Veterans

In August 2025, American Life League reported that the Department of Veterans Affairs proposed to end a Biden administration ruling that allowed the DVA to provide abortions to veterans. This ruling was overturned just a few weeks ago, after the Department of Justice released an opinion stating that the DVA is not legally authorized to provide abortions, taking effect immediately.

However, ALL noticed in the initial proposal that the DVA was still open to providing abortions for women in “life-threatening circumstances.” The DVA also misleadingly included miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies as “abortions” due to poor medical coding, which categorizes them as such. The memo stated the following:

VA has never understood this policy to prohibit providing care to pregnant women in life-threatening circumstances, including treatment for ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages, which were covered under the VA’s medical benefits package prior to the 2022 IFR. For the avoidance of doubt, the proposed rule would make clear that the exclusion for abortion does not apply “when a physician certifies that the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term.”

As a result, ALL wrote a letter asking the DVA to not permit abortion for the exception of the life of the mother. Unfortunately, the DOJ ruled that the DVA would be able to continue abortions in the case of threats to the life of the mother, ignoring the personhood of the preborn child entirely.

ALL is disappointed that the Department of Veteran Affairs continues to make an exception for abortions, especially since the life of the mother is never a medical or moral reason to intentionally kill the preborn child. As stated in our “Protecting the Life of the Mother” declaration:

There is never a situation in the law or in the ethical practice of medicine where a preborn child’s life need be intentionally destroyed by procured abortion for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. A physician must do everything possible to save the lives of both of his patients, mother and child. He must never intend the death of either.

ALL will always hold its position to protect all human beings, with no exceptions or compromise.

The Power of One: Nellie Gray and the March for Life: What can one person do to end abortion? Nellie Gray and a group of dedicated pro-lifers knew they had to do something when the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down in 1973, so on the one-year anniversary they held the first March for Life. Nellie Gray dedicated the rest of her life to saving babies and fighting abortion. We continue to march every year, even though the decision regarding abortion laws was given to each state. Teach your kids about the history of the March for Life and inspire them to use their own talents and gifts to end abortion. ORDER HERE

You Can’t Be Catholic & Pro-Abortion Sign: Drive home the truth that you cannot be Catholic (or Christian) and support the killing of preborn babies. This weather-resistant corrugated plastic 18″ x 24″ sign states “You Can’t Be Catholic & Pro-Abortion” on one side and “You Can’t Be Christian & Pro-Abortion” on the reverse. Carry it with you at the March for Life so that those who see it will think about the absurdity of claiming a faith in God while advocating for the slaughter of innocent babies. SHOP NOW

Imagine a world where the arrival of every baby comes with a birthday party: They’re welcomed with cake and ice cream, not curbside disposal. Pro-life advocates would rally the village to raise a child, not grind them into bits, as one X user prefers.

Abortion radicals view tiny humans as no different than yesterday’s takeout—better tossed early than left to linger. Nevertheless, a baby tossed in a dumpster has a slightly better chance of survival than a baby inside Planned Parenthood.
