CONTROVERSIAL FIGURE MARGARET SANGER TOPIC OF UNIVERSITY OF MARY WASHINGTON SPEECH

State University Requiring Students to Attend Speech Likely Praising Known Racist, Eugenicist

WASHINGTON, D.C. – "University of Mary Washington students will hear the truth about Margaret Sanger," said Erik Whittington, director of American Life League’s youth outreach program.  "She is a racist, a eugenicist and hostile to religion and those with larger families."

Whittington is referring to events surrounding a speech occurring at the University of Mary Washington as part of its Great Lives Lectures series. The event is open and free to the public on March 20th at 7:30 pm in Dodd Auditorium on the University of Mary Washington campus. Some students are required to attend.

"Asking Ellen Chesler, author of Women of Valor to give an unbiased presentation on Margaret Sanger is like asking Fidel Castro to give one on Stalin or Lenin," continued Whittington.  "Who is paying for this talk? If so, how much? Will the other side be presented? I doubt it; therefore someone has to be the bearer of bad news."

American Life League will be joining other concerned citizens from the community, educating students and others before and after Ellen Chesler’s talk. Many will be involved in sign holding and literature distribution. Others will attend the talk to ask Ms. Chesler questions about Margaret Sanger’s racist and eugenicist views.

American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Erik Whittington at 540.659.7900.
