Washington, DC—-American Life League, the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life grassroots organization, says that four other pro-life organizations are participating in the Defend the Family campaign. The campaign is a prayerful effort that is asking the Holy Father, Pope Francis, to officially declare that Planned Parenthood is an enemy of the Church and of families.
“We are excited about the immediate acceptance of our campaign to have Planned Parenthood declared an enemy of the Church,” said Judie Brown, president and cofounder of American Life League.
“Just this week, four organizations have formally declared public support of the campaign,” stated Jim Sedlak, vice president of ALL and Defend the Family campaign coordinator. “A number of other groups have been in contact with us and we expect this effort will continue to expand.” The four groups that have signed on so far include two international organizations—-Human Life International and Population Research Institute—-and two active United States groups—-Pro-Life Wisconsin and Pro-Life Waco.
As Human Life International’s director of missions communications, Stephen Phelen, pointed out, “Since its inception, Planned Parenthood has been at war against the Catholic Church, against life, and against the family. HLI supports declaring them an enemy of the Church. The wreckage this organization has left in its wake is immense, and we pray that the Holy Spirit will make His will known in this matter for our beloved Church.”
Copies of the basic document of the campaign, The Vatican Can Help Save Souls from Planned Parenthood in 2014, were mailed to Catholic prelates all over the world in preparation for the Third Extraordinary Synod of Bishops that will take place in Rome from October 5-19.
“Since the Extraordinary Synod will be discussing ‘External Pressures on the Family,’ detailed ‘Pastoral Challenges Concerning an Openness to Life,’ and ‘The Church and the Family in the Challenge of Upbringing (of Children),’” Sedlak continued, “it is clear that the threat that Planned Parenthood poses to each of these areas will be addressed.”
