ALL trusts Pope Benedict XVI to guide Catholic Church

Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued the following statement in response to the news of the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI, the new Holy Father of the Catholic Church:

Today is a day filled with hope and joy as the world has learned of the election of the new Holy Father of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI. While this historic day marks the beginning of a new pontificate, the steadfast traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church are forever the same.

Pope Benedict XVI now begins the monumental task of leading the Catholic faithful worldwide. While many in the media and public have speculated on the idea that the successor of Pope John Paul II should consider changes in some foundational teachings of the Catholic Church, we are assured that the Holy Spirit will lead Pope Benedict XVI in truth, faith, and love.

The late Pope John Paul II provided a heroic example in leading the faithful in the Church's consistent teachings that celebrate the inherent dignity of every human person from creation to death. Following in those holy footsteps, we are confident that Pope Benedict XVI will also teach this message with courage. As the former dean of the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI showed his dedication and fidelity to the Church's teaching that every single innocent human being is a person created by God, to be cherished, loved and respected, without compromise and without apology.

We at American Life League embrace Pope Benedict XVI as the 265th successor of St. Peter. We trust that his faith, actions and words will challenge the human family to create a culture of life and to embrace Christ's love for all of His children. May God bless Pope Benedict XVI.
