VICTORY! And Then, Political Conventions and Planned Parenthood’s Problems.

Pro-life news this week was dominated by the dismissal of all criminal charges against the undercover investigators of the Center for Medical Progress. Two courageous individuals, David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, were indicted a few months ago by a grand jury in Harris County, Texas. Attorneys for the two pro-life heroes insisted from the beginning that the charges were bogus and the pair would be vindicated.

As the case moved forward, Planned Parenthood used the indictments to insist it was the victim in the undercover videos that clearly showed PP breaking the law in how it obtained and then sold the parts of aborted babies. In addition, the legal team for the pro-lifers uncovered illegal collusion between the lawyer for Planned Parenthood and the Harris County district attorney’s office. At this week’s court hearing on a motion by the pro-lifers to dismiss the case, the district attorney’s office suddenly changed its position and asked the judge to dismiss the case, which he did.

The prosecutors blamed some technical problem with the original indictment, but the real reason seems clear to us. Faced with defendants who would not compromise, we believe the prosecutors realized that all their dirty linen would be aired in open court. They could not let that happen and they backed down (and slithered away).

Congratulations to David Daleiden, Sandra Merritt, and their attorneys for standing strong with the truth and relying on God. You’ve shown us all how to defeat the enemy.

In other news, last week we reported that the Republican platform was the first to mention Planned Parenthood by name. So, it’s only fair that we let you know that this week’s Democratic platform mentioned Planned Parenthood—twice. The platform says:

  • “We will fight Republican efforts to roll back the clock on women’s health and reproductive rights, and stand up for Planned Parenthood.” (Page 34)
  • “We will continue to stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood health centers, which provide critical health services to millions of people.” (Page 37)

Please remember, as an educational organization, American Life League does not endorse or oppose any specific candidates. But, we do advocate that you learn as much as you can about the various candidates and vote for the one you feel will return this country to a culture of life. We remind you that this is not just about the election of a president. The entire House of Representatives and one-third of the U.S. Senate are also on the ballot. Listen carefully to the candidates for every elected position regardless of their party affiliation.
