The election has been over for three weeks and all of Washington, DC and the abortion industry are in turmoil. Both sides are scrambling as much as they can to take advantage of Trump’s win.
On the generally conservative and pro-life side, special attention is being paid to the people Trump is planning to put in his cabinet after becoming president. Most of his choices have received high praise. His stated pick for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, has raised concerns as she is a supporter of Common Core. After the inauguration on January 20, all of Trump’s picks must be confirmed by the new Senate. You can expect fireworks.
Meanwhile, the old House and Senate are still in session and there is every indication that they will continue the fight to defund Planned Parenthood (thank God). The full House of Representatives voted this week (234-181) to provide an additional $800,000 for the select committee investigating abortion provider practices, doubling its budget for the year. The panel will spend nearly $1.6 million in total on its investigation. It is expected to issue a final report before it disbands at the end of this year.
That same select panel announced this week that it has referred Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast for criminal prosecution to the Texas attorney general because of its illegal sale of baby body parts. David Daleiden, the investigative journalist who uncovered PP’s sordid business, said in a statement: “The Select Panel is the only official, comprehensive, nationwide investigation of Planned Parenthood’s harvesting and sale of aborted fetal organs, and their findings confirm the criminal activity at Planned Parenthood that CMP’s videos documented and show that the wrongdoing goes even deeper than anyone first suspected. The Panel has also criminally referred Planned Parenthood’s closest business partners in the sale of aborted baby parts to various state and local law enforcement. Law enforcement and elected representatives at all levels must now act quickly to bring Planned Parenthood to justice under the law and prevent any more taxpayer subsidies from flowing to Planned Parenthood’s barbaric criminal enterprise.”
Planned Parenthood is using this time after the election to file lawsuits to strike down pro-life laws in a number of states. It is partnering with the ACLU to use PP’s support in the Obama administration to find friendly judges who will ensure it can kill as many babies as possible. It simultaneously filed three challenges to, what it calls, medically unnecessary abortion restrictions in Alaska, Missouri, and North Carolina.
On another front, after getting a friendly law passed in California, PP is encouraging its customers to buy a full year’s worth of birth control now, at taxpayer expense—before any changes are made to Obamacare.
