Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act … Really Pro-Life?

I note that the U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass the allegedly pro-life bill known as the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act. I am honestly grateful to God for this because I do not believe that we, as defenders of the innocent, want to be on record claiming victory because a bill was passed that requires anesthesia for the child prior to his murder.

Perhaps it is time for all of us who claim to be pro-life to sit back and evaluate what we are doing; 33 years of "doing what we can to save some lives" has had little to no effect on the culture of death. Oh we claim that we are making progress, but then none of us are dying at the hands of an abortionist.

Personhood has always been the hallmark at American Life League, the principle on which to hang one's hat if you will. And if we put the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act to that test, it fails miserably.

Is the preborn child a human being, a person created by God? If you answer yes, then tell me how it can be that we would support a bill that asks for humane treatment for the potential murder vicitim. Are we serious about defending each and every baby or are we overcome by an attitude of despair that leads us to believe that "the best we can do" includes making it more comfortable for a baby to undergo death by knife or other surgical instrument?

What does it mean these days to be pro-life?
