The South Dakota bill that restricts abortion, permitting it only in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother, has just passed the state house and is now headed for the state senate.
Interestingly, not all pro-life groups in the state are happy with this turn of events. It seems that backsliding from a real ban to a phony one doesn't sit well with more than a few committed pro-lifers.
But perhaps the most telling information about this new, weaker bill is the position of the National Abortion Federation's Vicki Saporta's view. Saporta, who is anything but a compromiser, just told her blog readers, "Just a few months ago, the citizens of South Dakota voted against returning to the days of illegal and unsafe abortions."
You see, whether the abortion ban is real, or flawed, the pro-abortion forces are going to pull out all the stops to defeat it. So while some in the pro-life movement are reading the polls and accepting the abortion-killing of some babies, abortion proponents have dug in their heels and refuse to give an inch.
Wouldn't you think pro-lifers would learn a thing or two about that kind of dedication? I mean, these people are committed to their principles because of a self-centered conviction that no baby in the womb should ever be born unless the mother chooses to agree that it is a baby.
Surely pro-lifers should be equally committed to the principle that no baby in the womb should ever be subjected to death by abortion, regardless of the popularity of permitting it for reasons of rape, incest and life of the mother.
