Those Who Die in Violence

By Judie Brown

When I saw this recent prayer petition at a daily Mass: “For all who have died or suffered because of violence,” I couldn’t help but think of all the babies who die so violently under the legal shield of medical, clinical, and chemical abortion.

Considering this same thing, Father Jerry Novotny recently wrote about the horrors of abortion. His words in “When Silence Feels Too Easy” enlighten and remind us of Church teaching, as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.”

A good example of this occurred days ago. When Pope Leo XIV preached on the need for peace and told the media that he is not intimidated by the arrogance of President Donald Trump, we have much to consider. Here we have a disrespectful leader of our nation who, when asked by Bishop Robert Barron, among others, to apologize to the pope, chose not to do so.

It seems that megalomania supersedes any thought of ending violence, whether in a foreign nation or in the American wombs of expectant mothers. We suppose this is what happens when everything under the sun becomes a question of political posturing, including the commission of murder.

This most recent example of a public tit for tat underscores our concerns for the babies. The negative influences of our day are stealthy, marketable, and enticing to far too many. Let us step back and take a moment to remember that those who die in violence, most particularly the preborn, innocent, and still growing, deserve to be protected. When boorish leaders prefer to ignore their plight, we Christians are their first defense.

That’s why we applaud the efforts of the leadership of Live Action. Given the current situation, our fellow pro-lifers have declared that during this 250th anniversary of our nation, they will begin a “DEFUND 250” project to end funding to Planned Parenthood.

In a stunning example of investigative reporting, Live Action highlights 10 deadly examples of Planned Parenthood’s practices. It concludes, “When a purported ‘health care’ facility is killing and injuring its patients, its abundantly clear that what it’s offering isn’t health care. It’s time to defund Planned Parenthood once and for all.”

It did not require hubris to put this report together but rather commitment to factual evidence that the nation’s number-one baby-killing business must be ended. No God-fearing American would disagree.

Planned Parenthood may well be President Trump’s silent partner, as its funding continues to roll in, but PP is, in our opinion, America’s primary enemy engaged in a violent war to take the lives of innocent preborn persons.

Bravo, Live Action and all those who will not step away from the struggle. They are doing as we must: Engage it head on.

Stand on the front lines with us and decry the arrogance, the false words, and the despicable actions that have shielded the truth about abortion for far too long.

The preborn are by far and away the most frequent persons to die in violence.
