Sex Talk With USCCB

Oh my! The Washington Times article, Politically divergent groups call for dialogue about sex, happens to be a news report about 18 organizations that are calling "for a common vision — and more dialogue — on sexual health and public policy."

OK, now which groups are they? Well, let's see. There's the usual suspects such as the Guttmacher Institute, the National Organization for Women, the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network and — yes — the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops!

My oh my. Sure, I can understand why a Focus on the Family rep or a Concerned Women for America rep would want to be part of this because, after all, discussing basic questions with the enemy could prove to be interesting, if nothing else. But the BISHOPS????

The USCCB spokesperson, Father Michael Place, says he is attending to bring a "Catholic voice" to the table. But I have to ask you … after 40 some years of Catholic leadership denying for the most part that the Church is serious about describing the practice of birth control as a grievous sin, just what sort of voice will be at that table?

Well folks, I call 'em as I see 'em. This could be another disaster in the making. Time will tell.
