This past weekend I listened to a pro-life Republican Catholic senator explain why it was acceptable for him, from a political perspective, to support the re-election campaign of a totally pro-abortion fellow Republican. He seemed to suggest that those of us who believe in the sanctity of human life without compromise, who attempted to lovingly explain to him why we thought he was wrong, are simply people who do not understand the nuances of practical politics. He used the word "naive" to describe us.
While my stomach was churning, and my heart was aching, my sense of the statement was as follows: It is very clear that it has become acceptable for this senator to explain away the unexplainable in language designed to appease the masses so that he can retain his powerful position at the lunch counter.
Well, while my view is not politically realistic, it is this: I would prefer to one day sit at the banquet table with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ than to sit today at the lunch counter with buddies who put re-election ahead of defending innocent babies. Every time I think about even one abortion, I am reminded of the Crucifixion. And when I think of those who sidestep God's law for political reasons, I think of Judas Iscariot.
Sorry, but that's my view. Oops! I am not sorry; just very sad.
