On Roe Anniversary, Times Ad Calls Out ‘Dirty Dozen’ Pro-Abortion Politicians

Washington, D.C. (25 January 2010) – American Life League released an ad in the Washington Times on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade listing 12 pro-abortion politicians who claim to be Catholic, along with the names of their bishops.

As an estimated 400,000 pro-lifers descended on the nation’s capitol for the pro-life movement’s largest annual demonstration Jan. 22, an atmosphere of frustration with “Catholic” politicians supporting abortion, and the lack of public action by their bishops, was palpable in Washington D.C.

The Times ad states:

“Wanted for fraudulently claiming Catholic faith: The Deadly Dozen.

“These 12 nationally known public figures claim to be Catholics, but their public support for decriminalized abortion is scandalous. Canon 915 makes it clear that supporting such heinous crimes makes them unworthy to receive Holy Communion:

“‘Those who have been … obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.’ Canon 915

“We call on all bishops, priests, deacons and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion to respectfully refuse Holy Communion to these and all public figures whose unrepentant support for the killing of babies in the womb defiles the body of Christ.”

American Life League president Judie Brown called the attempt by pro-abortion politicians to claim Catholicism “a deliberate and insidious attempt to redefine Church teaching and advance a human rights travesty. We call on every bishop in the country to obey canon law and enforce Canon 915.”

Most notable among the “Catholic” pro-abortion dirty dozen: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Archbishop George Niederauer), Sen. John Kerry (Archbishop Sean O’Malley), Vice President Joe Biden (Bishop W. Francis Malooly) and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (Archbishop Joseph Naumann).

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
