ALL Associate Group Hosts Former Planned Parenthood Director at Launch of Constant Witness Program

Washington, D.C. (01 June 2010) – Defenders of the Unborn, an American Life League Associate group, will bring famed Planned Parenthood-director-turned-pro-life activist Abby Johnson to St. Louis for the launch of its new Constant Witness program on Saturday, June 5, 2-2:30 p.m. outside of Planned Parenthood of St. Louis.

The program is designed to recruit, train and schedule sidewalk counselors to be present outside of the St. Louis Planned Parenthood facility, which commits over 5,500 abortion per year. Sidewalk counselors will be a witness and resource for abortion-minded mothers, abortion mill workers and the greater St. Louis community.

“The goal is to lower the number of abortions, encourage abortion clinic workers to leave the abortion business and to be a reminder to St Louis residents that their neighbors are dying for profit,” said Mary Maschmeier, director of Defenders of the Unborn. “Sidewalk counselors will also be a prayerful witness for those children whose lives will be ended by abortion.”

Abby Johnson will detail her experience as a clinic director at a Texas Planned Parenthood facility who was forever changed by viewing an ultrasound image during an abortion. She knew it was time to leave after she watched the baby “crumple” as it was vacuumed out of a woman’s uterus.

“Sidewalk counseling is literally the front line of the fight against abortion, and it is the front line of the human rights movement seeking justice for, and recognition of, the personhood of all human beings – especially the defenseless preborn,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “We stand with Defenders of the Unborn, in support of their new Constant Witness program. May it flourish and spread beyond St Louis and across the country.”

Johnson will also speak at Columns Banquet Center later in the day, on June 5, at 6:30 p.m.

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
