Aborting Immigrants

By Judie Brown

We recently learned of the controversy surrounding an undocumented minor in Texas who wanted to have an abortion but who was not permitted to do so.

This young girl was not allowed to have the abortion because of a new policy promulgated by the Trump administration. According to LifeNews:

Earlier this year, the Office of Refugee Resettlement issued a new policy requiring that taxpayer-funded shelters for immigrants and refugees offer life-affirming support to women and girls who are pregnant, according to Slate, a pro-abortion blog site.

Abortion activists are upset by the new policy, especially because the administration encourages shelters to take women and girls to life-affirming pregnancy resource centers.

Earlier this year, office Director Scott Lloyd, a Trump nominee, said the shelters may not take “any action that facilitates” an abortion for unaccompanied minors without his direct approval.

So of course, when this girl’s case became a public matter, the American Civil Liberties Union was quick to involve itself in the case. The ACLU, among others, claims that because pro-abortion groups have already raised the funds to kill this young woman’s baby, the abortion should go forward. In addition, they claim that the Trump administration’s policy is heartless.

A federal judge agreed with these pro-abortion groups. According to the Washington Post, “A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the U.S. government to allow an undocumented immigrant teenager in its custody to have an abortion and said she was ‘astounded’ that the Trump administration was trying to block the procedure.” The Post went on to say that US district judge Tanya Chutkan “ordered the government to allow the teen to visit the abortion provider located closest to her shelter in Texas on Thursday and undergo state-mandated counseling before terminating the pregnancy on Friday or Saturday.”

However, on Thursday, NPR reported that “a federal appeals court has temporarily blocked” this judge’s ruling and stated that the case will return to court on Friday (today). Meanwhile, a baby’s life hangs in the balance and a young girl remains a pawn for pro-aborts who care neither for her welfare nor that of her child.

My question in regard to this case is twofold. How can anyone see as a just action the court-ordered killing of a preborn child as if he were nothing more than a malignant tumor? The Trump administration most assuredly does not see it that way! We do not see it that way. And furthermore, since this young girl is an illegal immigrant and all alone in this country, wouldn’t it be better for her well-being to support her through her pregnancy with love and compassion?

Since I have not seen answers to these questions, we must assume that this case is simply a test of just how far the court system will go to enforce killing as a method of charitable behavior toward pregnant undocumented immigrants.

Will sanctuary cities become the new abortion capitals of America?

Does sanctuary mean safety, but only for some?

This girl came to America without her parents. She is all alone here and probably very scared. What she truly needs is compassionate care. Yet the “care” some want to give entails the taking of a life. Since when does the killing of a baby equate to good healthcare?

Our hearts break for this young woman and for her preborn child. And we pray that the impending court decision spares the life of this innocent baby.

As we contemplate this matter, we must remember the lesson Pope-Emeritus Benedict XVI taught us: “Abortion resolves nothing; rather it kills the child, destroys the woman and blinds the conscience of the child’s father, often devastating family life.” Further, he taught that the whole of society must defend the child’s right to life from conception (creation/fertilization) and that we must protect “the true good of the woman who can never, in any circumstances, find fulfillment in the decision to abort.”

With every action we take, we must strive to move our nation toward the point where every human being is revered, respected, and cherished.

We all have the power to effect change. There is so much we can do. Begin by praying for our nation. Then teach your children the profound truths about the value and dignity of the human person. Encourage all people to speak out and defend the vulnerable by becoming activists for life!
