What Will GOP Victories Mean to the Preborn Now?

By Rey Flores

This morning we all woke up to headlines that read “Huge Victory as Pro-Life Candidates Win Nationwide, Take Over Senate from Pro-Abortion Democrats,” and other more specific headlines like “Pro-Life Greg Abbott Defeats Abortion Champion Wendy Davis for Governor in Texas.”

But what does this all mean? What will it mean to preborn children at risk of being aborted not just today, but 12 months from now?

People across social media, including many pro-life advocates and leaders, are whooping it up ecstatically on Twitter and Facebook, acting as if last night’s election results equal an end to abortion in our nation.

Sure, it’s great to see many rabid pro-abortion politicians get sent home packing with their tails between their legs, but this is just politics. These newly elected politicians have a very important responsibility now to adhere to their campaign promises and deliver some actual pro-life wins.

Now we must hold their feet to the fire, especially by educating them and all Americans that any so-called “pro-life” legislation that leaves any babies under the murderous tools of the abortionist are not good enough. Human life must never be compromised under any circumstance and we need bold leaders who will deliver “no exceptions” legislation at both state and federal levels.

American Life League president Judie Brown said it best recently: “America does not realize that you cannot elect an end to abortion. The babies are still dying.”

Mrs. Brown is right on target. I’ll take it even further and say that the babies are not dying, but are being murdered at a rate of 3,000 per day in our nation!

I am not trying to rain on anyone’s parade today, but this is only one step in the right direction. A builder doesn’t start celebrating after he’s laid down the first brick. He waits to celebrate the fruits of his labor after the entire building has been constructed.

Remember that it isn’t Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell, Greg Abbott, Rick Scott, or Cory Gardner who are doing the lifesaving work that many pro-life organizations do on a daily basis, 365 days a year.

We are glad that these people have won their respective offices, but now that the elections are over, please remember to support our work here at American Life League and at your local crisis pregnancy centers. These are the battles that are being fought daily, not just during election season.
