Life-CAN Prevails at Oak Harbor

In another prime example of how pro-life efforts can bring about change, Edward Daccarett, director of Life-CAN, issued a media release on Valentine’s Day proclaiming, “Pro-lifers prevail in cancelation of Planned Parenthood event!”

Planned Parenthood, with its hand always out, had scheduled a fundraiser at the posh Oak Harbor Club in Vero Beach, Florida, on February 11. According to Treasure Coast, the cocktail party “would have offered a buffet, dancing and a live auction featuring an 18-karat gold cocktail ring and various works of art. … Tickets for the ‘Cocktails with a Twist’ fundraiser were $100, according to the organization’s web site. Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Judith Selzer said the organization had a goal of $50,000 for the fundraiser. More than 130 people had purchased tickets.”

However, the management of Oak Harbor Club learned of a strong turnout planned by pro-lifers from the tri-county area and became concerned about its negative impact on the posh community’s image. Oak Harbor informed Planned Parenthood the day before the event that it would not host the event. In other words, Planned Parenthood was not welcomed!

In typical Planned Parenthood style, Lillian Tamayo, president of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, referred to the pro-lifers who had planned a peaceful, prayerful vigil as “extremist individuals” and “bullies,” and described efforts to stop Planned Parenthood from receiving tax dollars as “dangerous.” See local coverage here.
