IRA and 401K Distributions
If you have IRA or 401K retirement savings accounts, the IRS mandates that you withdraw a certain amount of money (called a required minimum distribution) from these accounts every year after you turn 73. These funds are added to your yearly income and subject to income taxes. To avoid paying higher taxes, you can directly transfer these funds to a nonprofit such as American Life League through a qualified charitable distribution. These gifts do not qualify as tax deductions, but instead prevent income tax increases. You can begin making annual QCDs of up to $108,000 to ALL when you are 70½ years old.
Ask your IRA administrator about making a qualified charitable distribution from your retirement savings to support our work and enjoy these tax benefits.

Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds
Appreciated securities are a powerful gift that may offer significant tax benefits when donated. If you have stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have increased in value since you purchased them and you have held them for more than a year, you can donate these assets to a qualified charity such as American Life League.
When selling an appreciated security, you are required to pay capital gains tax on the value it has gained since it was purchased. Donating these assets allows you to avoid this tax while also potentially qualifying for an income tax deduction. Additionally, charities are not required to pay capital gains taxes, which allows them to receive the full value of the donated asset’s sale.
You can also donate paid-up life insurance policies to ALL for potential tax benefits. For more information, please consult your financial advisor.

Donor-Advised Funds
Donor-advised funds are similar to savings accounts for charitable contributions. The DAF is held by a public charity (the “sponsoring organization”) that manages the funds and makes charitable gifts to the organizations you request.
When you make donations of cash or other assets to your DAF, you will receive an immediate tax deduction for the current fiscal year. The sponsoring organization will then invest these funds until you are ready to make a charitable donation. At that time, you can recommend a grant to a nonprofit such as American Life League.
A donor-advised fund offers immediate tax benefits while allowing you to donate over time to your favorite organizations. Your contributions will be invested and may grow while held in your DAF, giving you more to donate.
Speak with your financial advisor to open a donor-advised fund or to support ALL using the undistributed money in your DAF.
