Week in Review – Webcam abortions banned, Nashville PP stops abortions, Kavanaugh disappoints

Both houses of the Michigan legislature have passed a bill that will, among other things, permanently ban teleconference (web-cam) abortions in the state. Teleconference abortions occur when a doctor about to authorize a medication abortion is not in the same room with the mother, but communicates with her over the Internet. The doctor could be hundreds of miles away. A total of 20 states currently ban this procedure. Back in 2012, Michigan passed a temporary ban on the procedure and that ban was set to expire on December 31 of this year. But, the state senate passed the permanent ban (25-12) on November 29 and the house followed with its approval vote (62-47) just yesterday.  The bill will now go to the governor for his signature.

This week, Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi announced it was temporarily stopping all abortions at its Nashville (TN) facility. A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood reportedly explained, “At this time, abortion services have been halted and we’re undergoing a period of quality improvement.” It appears that Planned Parenthood is having trouble finding abortionists to work at the facility. Breitbart reported that “the clinic was the largest provider of abortions in the state. Women from Middle Tennessee counties and neighboring Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi sought abortions in the Nashville facility.” In response to the stopping of abortions, Brian Harris, president of Tennessee Right to Life, issued the following statement:

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider and promoter of abortion and Nashville’s Planned Parenthood facility is reputed to be the busiest abortion center in the Volunteer State.

With the suspension of abortion services in our state’s largest city, Tennessee Right to Life is grateful for a Christmas miracle.

With additional time, information, and alternatives we have witnessed changed hearts and minds of women who have in the last several days chosen life for their unborn children. Right to Life affirms the dignity of every person and we stand ready to assist any woman or girl in need of practical support to save the life of their unborn child.

The biggest disappointment of the week came from the United States Supreme Court. In his first Supreme Court decision involving Planned Parenthood, Justice Brett Kavanaugh took the side of the nation’s largest abortion chain and declined to vote to have the Supreme Court decide if a state can refuse to fund the organization. Under SCOTUS’ rules, in order for the Court to accept a case for review, four justices must vote to accept it. SCOTUS announced this week that it would not hear the cases. Justice Clarence Thomas issued a dissent from the decision. Both Justice Samuel Alito and Justice Neil Gorsuch joined in the dissent. That means that Justice Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the majority. Had either of them voted to accept the cases, then SCOTUS would have scheduled hearings and issued a decision during this term. That will not happen.

Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League said, “The biggest disappointment from this outcome is that many organizations and individuals who are opposed to Planned Parenthood worked very hard to have Judge Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court. That he would refuse to even allow these cases to be considered in depth by the full Supreme Court feels like a slap in the face.”

ALL in the News – Using pregnancy as a weapon

In Judie Brown’s commentary this week, Weaponized Pregnancy, Judie gives thought-provoking analysis of how the world sees a pregnant woman and even reveals some little-known information about the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Jim Sedlak authored Primary Care at Planned Parenthood—a look at the new trend of Planned Parenthood trying to lure customers using limited offerings of primary care.

In this week that included celebration of the Feast Day of our Lady of Guadalupe, STOPP published an article on Fighting Planned Parenthood with OLG.

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network.  It can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM) and Mondays (10 PM). His guest this week is Dan Lynch, founder of Dan Lynch Apostolates—which promote devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Jesus King of All Nations, Our Lady of America, and St. Pope John Paul II.

Video of the Week – Bizarre: Mother Shares the Lullaby She Sang before Her Abortion

From Created Equal, an activist group seeking to end the injustice committed against preborn lives:

Lullabies are usually associated with mothers soothing their babies. But at the “blessing” of Your Choice Healthcare abortion facility in Columbus, OH, that image of a mother soothing her child through song was flipped on its head at a shocking pro-abortion rally. Watch one mother recount her abortion by singing a lullaby she said her baby sent to her while she was in the waiting room preparing to kill the child. You’ve got to see this one to believe it! We recognize the terrible sin of this woman and ask that you please join us in praying for this mother’s repentance and conversion.

Action Item of the Week – March for Life in 5 weeks!

The annual March for Life in Washington, DC, takes place on January 18, 2019— just five weeks from today. If you have not made your plans to attend, NOW is the time to do so.

The theme for this year’s March is “Unique from Day One: Pro-Life is Pro-Science.”

Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life, expanded on the theme, saying, “Science is behind the pro-life movement. We see that medical and technological advancements always affirm the pro-life movement. For example, DNA is present at fertilization and no fingerprint on earth, past, present, or future, is the same. We know, too, a baby’s heart beats at just six weeks and we can distinctly observe it ourselves with ultrasound technology. As science progresses, we see clearly that every life is unique from day one.”

The 46th annual March for Life, the world’s largest annual human rights demonstration, will be held on January 18, 2019.

The March for Life Rally will take place at noon at 12th St. on the National Mall, in between Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive. Following the Rally, the March will begin on Constitution Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets at approximately 1:00 pm.

The published schedule for January 18 is:

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Ben Shapiro Live Podcast
11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Musical opening with Sidewalk Prophets
12:00 p.m. Rally Program
1:00 p.m. March up Constitution Avenue to Supreme Court and Capitol Building
3:00 p.m. After finishing marching:

  • Silent No More testimonies outside U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Advocate for life to your Representative or Senators.
  • Visit the March for Life Expo.

Hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers descend on DC each year to let the politicians, and the world, know that Americans will never abandon the babies!

We encourage you to be there in person this year.

Pro-life Social Media – Twelve Babies for Christmas

We found a dozen babies on Instagram prepared to experience their first celebration of the birth of Jesus.

A baby’s first Christmas is filled with wonder and awe. Tiny lights, the smell of evergreen, and a peculiar collection of boxes covered in multi-colored paper hinting of something special about to happen.
