At Planned Parenthood, the Doctor Is In!

By Judie Brown

According to Planned Parenthood, its incoming president, Leana Wen, MD, is breaking new ground. PP brags that, for the first time “in nearly 50 years” a physician will “helm the organization.”

According to Planned Parenthood, Wen “was born in Shanghai, China, and immigrated to the United States with her family just before her eighth birthday. She and her parents were granted political asylum, and they became U.S. citizens in 2003.”

However, the most interesting part about Dr. Wen comes from her own mouth during a short video she created for Planned Parenthood. In that video, we learn that she is a zealot in the true sense of the word. Wen says that “reproductive health care is health care, women’s health care is health care, and health care must be understood as a fundamental human right.” Furthermore, she says that she will fight for the rights of women and that she intends to carry on the legacy of Planned Parenthood foremother Margaret Sanger because, for her, abortion and contraception are essential parts of women’s healthcare.

Lest we forget, Sanger was a zealot who also had some medical training. While neither a physician nor even a nurse, Sanger had taken some nursing courses. Before she finished her schooling, however, she went into the poor neighborhoods of New York and “cared” for people in need. Her experiences led her to the founding of the organization that Wen is now proudly going to lead in typical Sanger fashion.

Like Sanger before her, Wen is committed to a woman’s right to be the sole arbiter over who lives and who dies when it comes to pregnancy and abortion. According to Sanger: “Woman must have her freedom—the fundamental freedom of choosing whether or not she shall be a mother and how many children she will have. . . . As it is the right neither of man nor the state to coerce her into this ordeal, so it is her right to decide whether she will endure it.”

Wen affirmed Sanger’s words when she said during a recent appearance on The View that Planned Parenthood is “an organization that for the last 100 years has done more for women’s health than any other.” The irony of that statement is obvious to those of us who know that, for Planned Parenthood, aborting children is synonymous with healthcare.

Unfortunately, many people do not know or understand this. Wen is counting on this level of ignorance to continue, and her rhetoric shows that she will say anything she can to shroud the truth with pleasant comments and feel-good statements, like the fact that she is a new mother herself. Indeed, in an article she wrote shortly after the birth of her son Eli, she said: “My experience has made me even more dedicated to public health programs to support women and ensure a healthy start for their babies.”

Is she just too naïve to know exactly what this Planned Parenthood presidency will mean in terms of babies and their moms? Oh no! She is not. In fact, as former Baltimore Health Commissioner, Wen is no stranger to the corruption of youth and the destruction of motherhood, as evidenced by her part in a recent lawsuit.

According to the Baltimore Sun:

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore $5 million in grant funding to two Baltimore-based teen pregnancy prevention programs, saying the government’s decision to withhold the money was “arbitrary and capricious.”

The case was brought by Baltimore’s health department and Healthy Teen Network, a nonprofit group based in the city. Both had received five-year grants to fund education programs aimed at bringing down teen pregnancy rates. But last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services told them that their funding was being cut after three years. . . .

Baltimore Health Commissioner Dr. Leana S. Wen said the judge’s order would ensure that money remains available to provide health education to some 20,000 students.

“This ruling is a victory for the youth of Baltimore City,” Wen said. . . . “It’s a victory for the use of science and evidence in health.”

A victory for the youth? What happened to “do no harm”? So much for understanding what healthcare really is, Dr. Wen! Yes, indeed, Margaret Sanger would be proud of her legacy today. At Planned Parenthood, the doctor is in; let the killing continue.
