Fire Bill Maher!

American Life League is leading the effort to defend the Catholic Church against late night television host Bill Maher's vitriolic attacks. On April 11 Maher made malicious statements about Pope Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church. Among other things, he referred to the Holy Father as a former Nazi and called the Church a "child-abusing religious cult." This occurred just a few days before Pope Benedict's visit to the United States began.

We have created a new web site, www.firebillmaher.com, and we're pressuring HBO to fire Bill Maher for his outrageous comments. To view them, click here.

On April 18, Bill Maher was supposedly going to apologize for this mean-spirited performance, but instead, he only explained why he had said such things and then continued with even more Catholic bashing.

Judie Brown, American Life League's president and cofounder, was invited to appear on the FOX Business Network on Monday, April 21, to discuss the situation. To view Judie's interview with Neil Cavuto, click here. You can also sign the petition to get Bill Maher off the air.

We encourage all of our readers to visit www.firebillmaher.com, sign the petition and cancel your HBO subscription, if you have one.

Two Planned Parenthood clinics temporarily halt surgical abortions

We have been informed that the Lincoln, Nebraska Planned Parenthood has temporarily stopped committing surgical abortions. Reports also indicate that the same is occurring at the Council Bluffs, Iowa PP. The same abortionist has been killing babies at both facilities. According to Iowa pro-lifers, the exact reason for the cessation is unknown, but they conjecture that it is probably because no abortionist is available.

We will keep you informed as we learn more. For now, babies are being saved. Praise God!

Defund Planned Parenthood: April 24

American Life League is working with Students for Life of America, as well as other national pro-life groups, to increase congressional support for defunding Planned Parenthood. On April 24, there will be a silent protest in front of the PP at 1108 16th St. N.W., Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m., followed by a press conference at 11 a.m. with African-American leaders. Below is an excerpt from an e-mail blast that SFLA sent out last week:

Join SFLA on Thursday, April 24th to tell Congress that the Racism and Unethical Business Practices of Planned Parenthood should not be funded with tax-payer dollars.

In case you have missed it, this is what Planned Parenthood has been up to:

  • Planned Parenthood is currently under criminal investigation in KS for falsifying documents and performing illegal late-term abortions.
  • In CA, a former Planned Parenthood employee has accused CA Planned Parenthood of defrauding taxpayers upwards of $180 million.
  • A recent video of YouTube shows a Planned Parenthood development director "excited" at the possibility of taking money specifically earmarked to kill black children.
  • The Alan Guttmacher Institute, along with the CDC, show that a huge majority of abortion clinics are located in minority neighborhood [sic] and some experts estimate the number at higher than 75%.
  • Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest provider of abortions. They have over 850 clinics across the country.
  • In Ohio, a Planned Parenthood is being charged with failing to report the rape of a 16 year old by her father.
  • Recently, a Wall Street Journal story reported that Planned Parenthood is going to spend an unprecedented $10 million this election cycle.
  • Planned Parenthood receives over $300 million dollars each year from the federal government.

‘Immoral society encourages young people to have sex'

We recently came across some very interesting observations published in the Opinion section of the Truth, an Elkhart County, Indiana newspaper. Below are excerpts from a letter written by Patricia Roeder, a high school senior:

I feel the STD rate is shocking. What I mean by shocking is scandalous or shameful. I am not very surprised the STD rate is high. Sex is everywhere. I can't watch one hour of TV without flipping the channel. It's rare that I remain on the same station during a commercial break. I stare at the floors during previews in a movie theater. I can't randomly pick a book out of the teen section at the library because nearly every book has sex references and/or a sex scene. My generation is getting so much sex, it's pathetic. That one in four girls is infected is hardly a surprise. I'm quite sure the average teenager sees some form of sex every day…

Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood said that "the national policy of promoting abstinence-only programs is a $1.5 billion failure" Dr. Ellen Kruger chimes in, offering that teens need to hear that STDs are prevented by abstinence and condoms.

Such talk infuriates me! Richards needs to get her head out of the clouds. If you don't have sex, you won't get STDs, plain and simple. I don't know what Kruger is trying to say. You can't "use" condoms and practice abstinence at the same time!

Condoms don't stop STDs anyhow. Studies show that in preventing HIV, condoms fail 31 percent of the time…

Before we can blame sex education programs for the STD rate, we need to repair society. Sex is everywhere and it is encouraged, regardless of the circumstances. Pre-marital sex guarantees many grave consequences, including STDs. My generation needs to stop listening to the lies of society and Planned Parenthood.

This young woman definitely understands what type of world we live in today. Praise God she is doing everything she can to prevent sinful influences from taking root in her life. We must pray that more young people will see the truth and refuse to listen to "the lies of society and Planned Parenthood."

Protest the Pill Day ‘08: The Pill Kills Babies

The Pill Kills

Saturday, June 7 marks the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Griswold v. Connecticut. This was the first of many decisions leading to the decriminalization of birth control and abortion, which, in turn, gave rise to the culture of death we live in today.

In Griswold, the Supreme Court claimed that the Constitution grants women the "right to privacy" with regard to matters of sexual practice, even though the constitutional right to privacy in fact had nothing to do with sexual matters. Because of this decision, states could no longer stop married women from taking the birth control pill.Pill Kills T-shirt

The history behind this case is that Estelle Griswold, then Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut's executive director, and Dr. C. Lee Buxton opened a birth control clinic. They were arrested and fined because they were administering the birth control pill, which was then illegal. The case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court, where it was decided in 1965. As Judie Brown has explained, the Supreme Court created this decision out of "nothing." Because of Griswold and other decisions that followed it, eventually single women and teenagers were also allowed to take the birth control pill – and now Planned Parenthood rakes in a total of $356.9 million each year.

Join American Life League, along with our Pro-Life Wisconsin and Pharmacists for Life International Associate groups, in participating in Protest the Pill Day ‘08: The Pill Kills Babies. Pro-lifers across the country will protest the birth control pill by standing outside of clinics and facilities (especially Planned Parenthood clinics) that distribute this deadly poison.

We have the official "The Pill Kills" T-shirt available at our store. The sale price is only $6.50 for a limited time. We will also have protest signs available soon. For more information, please visit www.ThePillKills.com. Please e-mail us at protests@all.org if you plan to participate.
