Planned Parenthood accused of ripping off $180 MILLION from the American people

All of California's nine Planned Parenthood affiliates are being sued for overcharging the state government, mostly for birth control products.

Victor Gonzalez, former vice president for finance and administration of Planned Parenthood-Los Angeles, filed the lawsuit in 2005 and it was unsealed in early March of this year. Gonzalez says he was fired in March 2004 because of his discovery of PP's participation in "illegal accounting, billing and donations practices."

Jack Schuler, Gonzalez's attorney said, "Here is the ultimate Hollywood movie set façade of a corporation that poses as charitable while grossly over-billing government programs funded to service the needy, not the greedy. I would not be shocked that criminal prosecutions might follow."

We call on all readers of the Wednesday STOPP Report to contact your state attorney general and ask that an audit of PP's operations in your state be conducted to determine if similar overbilling practices are taking place.

Planned Parenthood to open new clinic in Oneco, FL

Planned Parenthood plans to open a new facility within the next six to eight weeks in Oneco, Florida. PP raised $220,000 to open this clinic and hopes to raise $30,000 more by May 1.

As usual, PP says that Manatee County needs the clinic because of its high teen pregnancy rates. Never mind that the presence of a PP clinic has never been shown to decrease teen pregnancy. If PP were truthful, what it would have told the press is, "With such a high teen pregnancy rate, it is clear that there is a lot of sexual activity among teens in Manatee County. Our business is selling sex products to young people and Manatee presents a business opportunity we just could not pass up."

The Oneco clinic site is in the Forest Park health complex at 1105 53rd Avenue East. There has always been a great deal of anti-Planned Parenthood activity in Sarasota and the surrounding areas and we know that local pro-lifers will be protesting this site on a regular basis.

Texas Families are fighting to keep PP out

As we reported on February 13, Planned Parenthood plans to open a 78,000- square-foot killing center, in which PP will use the entire third floor for killing preborn babies up to 25 weeks old!

According to Life Advocates, a Houston-based pro-life organization, the updated floor plans include "hotel rooms" for visiting doctors [abortionists]. Texas Families Against Planned Parenthood is collaborating with other pro-lifers to stop PP. The following is from an e-mail sent out by Life Advocates:

Texans against Planned Parenthood are hoping all Texans, particularly Houstonians, will begin speaking out against what will be the largest free standing abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere and will do whatever is possible in a peaceful and legal way to slow or even stop Planned Parenthood of Houston & Southeast Texas' expansion. Currently, there are no signs of construction either inside or outside PP's new building…

In January the Houston Coalition for Life called a meeting of pro-life organizations and individuals from around the state to discuss this expansion. It was agreed that a multi-faceted, cooperative effort on the part of all pro-life groups is an absolute necessity and several main areas of emphasis were identified: Education, Public relations, Peaceful community activism, Civic, legal and legislative action.

Each group will contribute their expertise in these various areas of emphasis and work toward the common goal of legally and peacefully slowing or even stopping PP's newest abortion center from opening.

Texas Families Against Planned Parenthood will announce an action web site soon.

Planned Parenthood advertises free EC in Virginia

On March 25, two days after Easter, the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood clinic plans to pass out free emergency contraception from 9 am to 7:30 pm at 3415 Floyd Avenue in Richmond.

According to PP, people of all ages will be able to receive a free pack. Last year, PP admitted to passing out 308 emergency contraception packs and it says, "Everyone is welcome. If you are 18 or older, please bring a valid ID with birth date to receive your free pack of emergency contraception. If you are under 18, you will need to meet with one of our nurse practitioners (for free) and will then receive your EC."

To understand why PP conducts these free giveaway promotions, one need only look at its finances. PP pays $4.25 for each EC kit. VLPP advertises that it sells the EC kit for $28 to $38—thereby making a profit of $25 or more on each kit. If it can get just one of every six people who receive a kit to buy just one more, the promotion pays for itself and PP has attracted much publicity and many new customers.

Pro-lifers often protest these giveaways and hand out our Emergency Contraception brochure, which provides documented medical information on how EC works and its side effects.

For those who cannot travel to Richmond, perhaps you will be inspired to talk to PP representatives yourself! Courtney Jones is the VLPP contact person and her contact info is: courtney.jones@ppfa.org or 804-355-4538, ext. 144. Let us know about the response you receive!

Planned Parenthood giveaway protested in Indiana

When Planned Parenthood of Mishawaka, Indiana scheduled a free EC giveaway last month, those who showed up to get it were met by members of St. Joseph County Right to Life and other pro-lifers.

Despite the cold temperature and mixed public reaction, John Kominkiewicz and others educated the public about the true nature of emergency contraception. A description of the events outside the clinic was published in a local newspaper.

Keep up the great work, St. Joseph County Right to Life!

2008 Feast of the Annunciation

The Feast of the Annunciation, traditionally celebrated on March 25, commemorates the archangel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary to bring God's message that she had been chosen to be the mother of the Son of God.

American Life League is encouraging individuals and groups to use the month of March to commemorate this feast with special activities. In addition, American Life League will be marking this day with a special Mass offered for the safe delivery of all preborn children in the womb. We want to pray specifically for as many children as possible that day. The feast is celebrated on March 31 this year because March 25 falls within the Octave of Easter.

Please click here to view a list of suggested activities from the booklet Life Is a Miracle and to add a mother and child to our Mass intention list for March 31.

40 Days for Life Spring campaign ends Sunday

March 16 marks the end of the 40 Days for Life spring campaign. American Life League thanks all of the pro-lifers across the United States for participating in such an incredible effort to end abortion in our country—especially those who were outside Planned Parenthood facilities.

One person has stood out throughout these 40 days. He is Loka Kanongataa, of Bellevue, WA. He called ALL months ago, asking questions about praying outside of abortion clinics. After speaking with us, he gained a better understanding of chemical, medical and surgical abortion—all of which Planned Parenthood commits for profit.

Loka is a father who sees the importance of praying outside of PP facilities and has started a protest outside of the Bellevue PP. He is still looking for help and we encourage the STOPPers in Washington to contact him. He has been participating in the Issaquah, WA 40 Days for Life as well as starting the protest in Bellevue.

To view the newspaper article that mentions Loka, click here.

We encourage all pro-lifers to take part in peaceful witnessing outside of abortion clinics, especially PP facilities. Currently, we have pro-lifers praying outside of PP clinics in 35 states. We still need witnessing in 15 more! To find out if you live in one of these 15 states, go to www.ALL.org/stopp/maps and sign up to save the lives of the preborn.

Virginia state senate votes to stop PP funding

With the tie-breaking vote cast by Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, the Senate of Virginia has voted to cut state funding for Planned Parenthood. An amendment to the state budget proclaimed that no money in the budget could go to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America or any of its affiliates. The bill now moves to a conference committee and, if it passes, it will be sent to the governor for signing.

In response, American Life League President Judie Brown, made these comments:

The most important thing to remember in all this is that the tide is turning against Planned Parenthood. Their veneer of respectability is cracking, and as it does more and more preborn children will be spared. We are well aware that politicians are usually the last ones to see the moral imperative involved in doing something as courageous as cutting the money from any organization that is aligned with abortion rights, and so this is a double victory in my eyes.

To read the rest of Judie's blog posting, view PLANNED PARENTHOOD IS TAKING IT ON THE CHIN!

As of 2006, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and West Virginia were not giving state funds to PP. We hope to see Virginia be the next state to stop taxpayer funding and we encourage YOU, no matter what state you live in, to contact your local elected officials and let them know about the evils of PP.
