Planned Parenthood’s “Real Life. Real Talk.” program
Ever since 1986, Planned Parenthood has had an objective of getting K-12 sex education mandated in every school district in the nation. It has had problems achieving this goal as most communities understand the harm done by these sex education programs and keep them out.
Planned Parenthood is currently trying a new approach. It has put together a program called “Real Life. Real Talk.” Planned Parenthood describes the program as: “Real Life. Real Talk® is a community-based sexual health education program designed to support the development of healthy sexual attitudes and behaviors in students 12-18 years of age in collaboration with their parents and teachers.”
One of the chief aims of Real Life. Real Talk. is to indoctrinate parents into the sexually addictive philosophies of Planned Parenthood and convince them to pass those philosophies along to their children. For example, in the “ask the experts” section of the “Real Life. Real Talk.” web site, a parent asks what to do when her 15-year-old daughter wants to sleep over at her boyfriend’s house. In response, the “expert” comments, “If you want to keep her in your life, you are going to have to let her make her own decisions. Give her your best advice, but let her know that you understand that her life is hers to live.”
“Real Life. Real Talk.” is currently being conducted in three locations: Portland, Maine; Rockland County, New York; and Tucson, Arizona. If it is successful in these areas, we expect Planned Parenthood to roll it out across the country.

AP/MTV survey shows Planned Parenthood is out of touch with teens
As reported by the Associated Press, in a recent survey conducted by the Associated Press and MTV, more than 100 questions were posed to 1,280 young people aged 13-24. The purpose of the survey was to find out “What makes young people happy?”
The answer to that question shows that Planned Parenthood programs like “Real Life. Real Talk.” are way out of tune with what teens see as important. Here is a comparison of what PP believes and what the young people said:
- Family
- AP/MTV survey – young people said that spending time with family was the most important thing in affecting happiness in their lives. No matter what the family circumstances are, just having parents and a safe place and environment to go to “no matter what” was important.
- PP ideology – Planned Parenthood says young people need confidential services. A safe place they can go completely protected from family and parents’ influence. And PP is there ready, willing and able to provide your children with its products and advice – including so called protected sexual activity, birth control, and abortion without your knowledge
- Relationships
- AP/MTV survey – 75 percent of young people say their relationship with their parents/friends makes them happy. No matter how “stupid” an action might be or sound – young people feel secure that they can go to their parents. Likewise, having friends to share their problems with gives them a sense of security and positive self-esteem.
- PP ideology – Planned Parenthood uses examples from the minority of young people who have problems with their family relationships to convince everyone to adopt universal programs based on the need of a few.
- Sexual Relationships
- AP/MTV survey – According to the survey, being sexually active actually leads to less happiness in 13-17 year olds. If you’re 18-24, sex might lead to more happiness “in the moment” but not in general.
- PP ideology – Planned Parenthood stresses sexual activity among young people. It believes that “intolerant attitudes, often cultivated by orthodox religions and puritanical cultures, unduly repress sexual conduct.” Its number one goal is to make sure that sex is celebrated and that individuals should be permitted “to express their sexual proclivities and pursue their life-styles as they desire.”
In other words, Planned Parenthood says: Have all the sex you want, anytime you want, with anyone you want. Programs like “Real Life. Real Talk.” are geared to bringing this philosophy to 12-18 year olds. Yet, the AP/MTV survey shows that 13-17 year olds say that sex makes them less happy. It is time all PP programs for young people are STOPPed.
Update on Planned Parenthood in Aurora
Planned Parenthood continues to make plans to move into its “secret” abortion facility in Aurora. If you remember, PP used a different legal entity to purchase the land and build the building. Facts continue to emerge from the darkness. One of the facts is the real name of the legal entity PP used. Although the sign outside the building while it was under construction read “Gemini Health Systems,” it turns out the official name of the corporation is: Gemini Office Development, LLC.
The last week saw the following happenings in Aurora:
- The 24 hour a day, 7 day a week prayer vigil outside the Planned Parenthood facility continued.
- On Saturday, over 1, 200 pro-lifers attended a prayer rally at the new PP site.
- On Monday, the City of Aurora hired an outside law firm to review the permit and building process of Planned Parenthood to make sure all laws were followed and PP did not commit fraud by its deceptive practices.
- Over 120 people spoke at a city council meeting on Tuesday. Only two were in favor of Planned Parenthood.
- Pro-lifers, through the Thomas More Law Center have filed a lawsuit against the city of Aurora police department claiming that the police have violated their first amendment rights.
Please continue to pray for the success of this effort.
Pro-life Memorial Day
American Life League's annual day commemorating the babies lost to abortion is October 1. This date is the first Monday in October, the day the U.S. Supreme Court begins its new session.
It is fitting that there be protests outside of Planned Parenthood on that day, since it was Planned Parenthood that brought the Griswold case to the Court, where justices somehow found the “right to privacy in sexual matters” in the emanations of the penumbra of the Constitution and that set the precedent for the decriminalization of abortion in Roe v. Wade.
This year’s official Pro-Life Memorial Day T-shirt is particularly fitting as it has a picture of the Supreme Court building on the front with the title “Tomb of the Unborn.”
We encourage everyone to demonstrate at Planned Parenthood that day. You can obtain the official T-shirt of ALL's Pro-life Memorial Day 2007 online.
You can find the Planned Parenthood facility nearest to you by going to the Planned Parenthood web site and entering your zip code in the search box at the top center of the page.
Illinois governor takes some Planned Parenthood dollars out of state budget
Last week, Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich used his veto power to remove a total of $463 million from the state budget that had been passed by lawmakers. As part of the cuts, a $65,000 grant to Planned Parenthood in east central Illinois was axed.
As our publications director at American Life League observed, “Opposition to PP funding can be a fiscal move regardless of one's stance on abortion. If an organization has money in the bank, then giving it tax dollars can certainly be viewed as pork, and a fiscally responsible governor can recognize that fact. True, ideology wins more often than not. But not always...”
Illinois pro-lifers are happy with the cut in PP money. They are concerned however, that Planned Parenthood might ultimately get even more money as it is expected that Gov. Blagojevich is getting ready to launch new healthcare initiatives.
Pro-lifers will monitor the situation, but just the fact that this $65,000 is being denied to Planned Parenthood is cause for celebration.
