The dangers of Planned Parenthood express clinics

In 2003, Planned Parenthood began opening express clinics in communities across the United States. In describing these clinics, PP said: "At an express health center, clients who are short on time and do not require a table examination can quickly pick up their birth control medication or get contraceptive advice."

The express clinics are normally located in places where there is retail traffic. A strip shopping center or even shopping malls have seen the PP express clinics open and do business. Now that these clinics have been around for a few years, we are beginning to see the purpose behind them.

Evidence is piling up that Planned Parenthood is using these express clinics to increase its baby killing business.

On July 4, we reported that the statewide increase in abortions in Minnesota may be attributable to the Planned Parenthood express clinics in that state. For the first time in five years the number of abortions committed in Minnesota has increased. While national rates of surgical abortion continue to decline, Minnesota reported over 700 more abortions than the previous year. Scott Fischbach, head of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, noted that Planned Parenthood's three new express clinics in Twin Cities suburbs were likely responsible for the 16 percent increase in abortions among minors in the state. He said, “There's no other change that's happened in the state other than Planned Parenthood preying on teens, targeting and marketing to teens, much like Big Tobacco has done.”

On August 1, we told you about the new abortion facility that Planned Parenthood is trying to open in Aurora, Illinois. In a recent story about that facility in the Daily Herald, the newspaper reported that Planned Parenthood told them “the success of three suburban express sites shows the need for increased services.” Steve Trombley, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area told the paper, "Many of those [express] clients asked where they can get the full set of services. We didn't have anywhere to refer them. They want us there."

ACTION: These stories should alert us to the fact that it is very important that demonstrations be held at every PP express clinic in the country. Pro-lifers in the Chicago area have demonstrated at the PP express clinics there. However, because express centers are located in shopping malls and other retail places, many pro-lifers have been reluctant to demonstrate at them. Yet it is clear that these clinics are directly contributing to the killing of our children. Please read the next item and act today.

Demonstrating at Planned Parenthood express clinics

In many ways, demonstrating at PP express sites should be easier than other PP facilities. There are no fences around the property, no locked doors and no deathscorts. These are retail establishments built to welcome the general public. And, of course, YOU are part of the general public.

Our tactics in demonstrating will be a bit different. Rather than printed signs, our demonstrations will consist of pro-life T-shirts and literature in pocketbooks or back pockets. You could walk into Planned Parenthood wearing one of our PP Kills Babies T-shirts. You could also wear the same shirt outside the store or wear it while walking around the mall. When people ask why you are there, explain about Planned Parenthood and hand them a brochure.

The neat thing about wearing an anti-Planned Parenthood T-shirt is that a lot of people wear shirts that have all kinds of messages on them. The mall manager can not forbid you to wear it just because he doesn’t like the message. It is a “free speech” issue and the Thomas More Law Center will be happy to defend your right to wear the shirt.

We encourage every pro-lifer to spend time spreading the pro-life message at PP express clinics. The babies are depending on you.

Where the Planned Parenthood express clinics are

In the short history of express clinics, we find that they are very fluid. Express clinics open and close frequently and it is often difficult to keep track of where they are.

Currently, our records indicate that there are PP express clinics in the following states and cities:

  • California (Los Angeles [Eagle Rock], San Diego [City Heights, Mission Valley, Pacific Beach])
  • Colorado (Parker)
  • Illinois (Schaumburg, Orland Park, Naperville)
  • Massachusetts (Somerville)
  • Minnesota (Woodbury, Apple Valley, Eden Prairie)
  • Ohio (Solon, Macedonia)
  • Rhode Island (Providence)
  • Washington (Yakima, Wapato, Walla Walla, University Place, Kennewick, Cle Elum, Cheney, Pasco)

If you become aware of any other PP express clinic that is open, please let us know by e-mailing us at STOPP@all.org. Also, please let us know if you are demonstrating at your local PP express clinic.

Pro-life Memorial Day

American Life League's annual day honoring the memory of the babies lost to abortion is October 1. This date is the first Monday in October, the day the U.S. Supreme Court begins its new session.

It is fitting that there be protests outside of Planned Parenthood on that day, since it was Planned Parenthood that brought the Griswold case – the case where justices somehow found the “right to privacy in sexual matters” in the emanations of the penumbra of the Constitution – that served as the basis for the decriminalization of abortion in Roe v. Wade.

This year’s official Pro-Life Memorial Day T-shirt is particularly fitting as it has a picture of the Supreme Court building on the front with the title, “Tomb of the Unborn.”

We encourage everyone to demonstrate at Planned Parenthood that day. You can obtain the official T-shirt of ALL's Pro-life Memorial Day 2007 online.

You can find the Planned Parenthood facility nearest to you by going to the Planned Parenthood web site and entering your zip code in the search box at the top center of the page.

40-days for Life at Planned Parenthood

There is a nationwide effort to have prayers said outside of Planned Parenthood facilities for 40 days from September 26 through November 4. Prayer is one of our great weapons against Planned Parenthood and we encourage everyone to participate in these events.

You can find further information online.

When considering places for your 40 days event, don’t forget the PP express clinic sites. These are visible places where you can call upon God to stop Planned Parenthood!
