Planned Parenthood continues to hide medical information from parents
If you have ever heard the expression "talking out of both sides of your mouth" then you will understand exactly what Planned Parenthood does when it comes to involvement of parents in the lives of their children. Often in news articles you will see Planned Parenthood talking about how "important communication is between parents and their children." Many people are led to believe that PP encourages parents to be part of the decision making process when it comes to buying Planned Parenthood's dangerous and often lethal goods and services. As always though, do not believe Planned Parenthood's lies.
Littered throughout PP's literature, programs and web sites is information that is intended to help teens hide important medical information from their parents. On TeenWire.com, Planned Parenthood's youth web site, there is a document that is frequently updated which informs teens whether or not they need parental permission-or even notification-to get contraception or receive an abortion in their state. For the states that require parental involvement, Planned Parenthood emphasizes that teens should call its hotline number to get information on how to obtain the judicial bypass option.
Consistent with this method of targeting teens while trying to avoid parents' eyes is the MySpace profile of Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas. MySpace is a popular web site that is used predominantly by teenagers and college students. Since there are laws concerning parental involvement in Texas, PPHST's MySpace is riddled with information directing children on how to get away with as much as possible without ever informing their parents. One section is headlined "what parents do and do not have to be told." Another states that young girls who are pregnant should "decide as soon as possible" whether or not to abort their child, limiting the amount of time that they have to think about this decision and so that their parents may not have time to find out until it is too late.
Whenever Planned Parenthood insinuates that it wants parents involved with the medical decisions of their children, do not let it get away with its lies. Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper exposing PP's interference with the rights of parents. Tell your friends, family and community leaders what Planned Parenthood's true agenda is. And most importantly, make sure that you keep the lines of communication open between you and your children and make them aware of the lies and manipulations of Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood receives grant from American Cancer Society
American Life League has been diligently working for years to identify how much money Planned Parenthood receives and where this money comes from. Often we find that grants from organizations are labeled vaguely, such as "for family planning." Other grants are labeled more specifically, such as "to decrease STDs" or "reduce teen pregnancy." Occasionally however, we come across a grant that is so nonsensical and even outright contradictory that we are baffled.
Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa was the recipient of such a grant. Recently, the American Cancer Society bestowed $5,000 to PP to be used to "train clinic staff to provide smoking-cessation assistance to patients." This program isn't anything new, however; it was begun in 2005 through a $23,000 grant from the American Legacy Foundation and was also funded last year by the American Cancer Society to the tune of $3,000.
These grants are confusing for several reasons. The one that is most evident is a point that is highlighted by Jim Sedlak in the STOPP CD set when he states, "If we want kids to not smoke, we say, 'Don't smoke!'… But when we want to prevent STDs and teen pregnancy, we say, 'here's a piece of rubber to protect yourself.'" When Planned Parenthood pushes its "medically accurate sex ed" programs, it states that telling children to not have sex is ineffective; instead, they must be taught about how to use contraception. Yet somehow it deems that telling kids "don't smoke" is sufficient to prevent them from smoking.
Iowa isn't the only place Planned Parenthood receives money from anti-smoking agencies. In 2006 Planned Parenthood of Pasadena began a program called SmokeBusters that is "aimed at children in grades 1 through 5, effectively an anti-smoking program that helps children understand about making healthy choices." This is the same age range that PP teaches kids to be "comfortable with their sexual fantasies" and instructs them on how to use the gamut of contraceptive drugs and devices instead of telling them about the healthy choice of not having sex until marriage.
Another curious aspect about this grant is that nicotine and hormonal contraception are a deadly combination. Every major hormonal contraceptive on the market includes warnings to not smoke and use the drugs or devices at the same time because of a tremendous risk of blood clot and stroke. Of course if you want to be free from this risk it is wise to use neither nicotine nor contraception; but if Planned Parenthood said that, it would lose millions of dollars in revenue. Instead of addressing the problems of rampant contraceptive use, PP attacks smoking and continues to sell its dangerous chemicals.
Finally, the biggest and saddest irony of all is that the American Cancer Society is the organization granting this money to Planned Parenthood even while it recognizes the connection between an increase in cancer and the use of contraception. Various other organizations, including the World Health Organization, also list hormonal contraceptives as carcinogenic.
We encourage everyone to write the American Cancer Society and demand that Planned Parenthood never receive any money from the organization as long as PP participates in the cancer-causing work that it does. 'Grand Illusions' available online
A major milestone in the history of the fight against Planned Parenthood took place when George Grant released his book Grand Illusions. It was originally published in 1988 and was the first book to expose the evil of Planned Parenthood as an organization. Since its original publication, this book has been updated twice: in 1992, and again in 1998.
Sadly, Grand Illusions has been out of print for some time and new people entering the fight against Planned Parenthood have not been able to learn from the great contents of the book. However, we have found that the 1992 edition of the book has recently been made available online. You can read the book online.
For those wanting a copy of the book itself, Human Life International still has a few of the 1998 edition in stock. To order, while the supply lasts, just click here.
If you have not yet read Grand Illusions we encourage you to put it next on your list. The information about PP's history and details of its evil work will be invaluable to your local fight against Planned Parenthood.
Comment on Judie's book
We told you last week of the new book written by American Life League's president, Judie Brown. In Saving Those Damned Catholics, Judie chronicles the scandals of:
- how ex-priest Daniel McGuire can go across the country supporting Planned Parenthood and still retain his teaching position at Marquette University - a Catholic institution (page 90)
- how Catholic Healthcare West's Mercy Healthcare, operated by the Sisters of Mercy, collaborated "unofficially" with Planned Parenthood of Ventura County (page 114)
- how the Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital, operated by the Daughters of Charity, sends women who want abortions to Planned Parenthood (page 115)
- how many Catholic dioceses are pushing Planned Parenthood-style "safe environment" programs on our children (page 158)
Although the book is written by a Catholic about the Church she loves and what needs to be done to correct the problems, we recently received the following comment from a non-Catholic who read the book …
Judie--
What a great style you have! I hated putting it down. I think the message you have to share is not only worthwhile to Catholics, but to all denominations...too often these days the Word is watered down to comply with modern life styles.

National Pro-life T-shirt Day at Planned Parenthood
Every year, pro-lifers across the nation mark National Pro-life T-shirt Day by gathering outside of Planned Parenthood facilities and making sure the entire community knows that Planned Parenthood is not wanted. The sight of a large group, all wearing identical shirts, gathered in front of PP cannot help but draw attention.
This year, National Pro-life T-shirt Day is on Tuesday, April 24. You can find out more information about the day and order your shirts online.
Babies' lives saved from Planned Parenthood in Florida
Members of Sarasota/Manatee Right to Life are outside the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Sarasota, Florida visibly and consistently. There are sidewalk counselors, who talk with the mothers going in to Planned Parenthood, and prayer supporters who pray for the babies, their parents and all people involved in the grisly trade.
While the fruits of this valuable work often go unseen, occasionally the victories over Planned Parenthood's evil work are made clear. During the month of February, we received reports of at least two babies that were saved by these faithful warriors. In addition, there were also several women who stopped on their way into PP and then left before ever entering the clinic.
Congratulations to all involved in this effort and thank you for your continued diligence to save lives.
Note: We are always happy to report on activities at local Planned Parenthood facilities across the country. If you have had a baby saved or other event that you would like everyone to know about, please e-mail us at stopp@all.org and we will include it in an upcoming Wednesday STOPP Report.
