Planned Parenthood in Indiana making money from adoption

There was much propaganda flowing in Indianapolis, Indiana over the last two weeks. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and the Independent Adoption Center announced the successful adoption placement of a newborn baby girl who rang in the new year with her new family.

News coverage of the event stressed that PP and the adoption agency have an arrangement where a representative from the adoption agency is physically present inside the Planned Parenthood clinic at 8121 Center Run Drive, Indianapolis IN 46250.

What was not mentioned in all the hype is the fact that, according to Planned Parenthood’s own numbers, in 2004 it committed 255,015 abortions and referred just 1,414 women for adoption services. That’s 180 abortions for every one adoption referral. Clearly, adoption referral is not very big at Planned Parenthood.

What caught our attention is one line from the editorial in the Indianapolis Star, which was written by representatives of PP and the adoption agency. The line read: “Through the partnership, Planned Parenthood offers office space at its Georgetown Road facility in Indianapolis to the IAC at an extremely reduced rate.”

Incredible! Planned Parenthood, who nationally made over $60 million last year, actually charges the adoption agency for office space. So, in addition to the positive publicity Planned Parenthood seeks as a result of this partnership, it also puts money in the bank.

When will people begin to understand that Planned Parenthood is strictly a business? Yes, it does do very few adoption referrals, but it has found a way to make money even from that.

County commissioners refuse to end Planned Parenthood’s lease

In Cowlitz County, in the state of Washington, Planned Parenthood rents space from the county to provide HIV testing, pregnancy testing, general health exams, contraception and other services. PP has rented the space for $400 a month for the last three years. Local pro-lifers have protested Planned Parenthood’s presence in the building and have picketed outside the health department’s building.

Despite the protests, on January 2, the county commissioners voted to renew Planned Parenthood’s contract. Pro-lifers are disappointed but are determined to get Planned Parenthood out of the building. They intend to continue the weekly protests until Planned Parenthood is not there anymore.

Planned Parenthood opposes parental control of children’s education

Lawmakers in Texas are trying to give parents more control of their children’s education. The state already has laws that say abstinence must be taught and that parents may opt their children out of any sex education program. Now, a new law is being proposed to change the “opt-out” system to an “opt-in” system, thus giving parents absolute control on whether or not their children are subjected to sex ed.

The media reports that Planned Parenthood is very upset about this proposed change. KHOU-TV in Houston reported that Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Meryl Cohen of Houston Planned Parenthood says making parents sign something first would mean the children who need sex ed the most probably wouldn’t get it. “It’s a barrier for young people to get this note home and signed and back to the school,” Cohen said. “We know that notes don’t come back.”

Planned Parenthood really does not want parents involved and its comments on this sensible legislation just show its true colors.

New boycott list available

Life Decisions International has released its latest Boycott List of the corporate supporters of Planned Parenthood. The list includes Bank of America, Circuit City, Forbes, Gannett, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Levi Strauss, Merck, Neiman Marcus, Nike, Tiffany, Tommy Hilfiger, Walt Disney and many more.

In addition to the corporations, the list also contains non-profits groups including the American Automobile Association, American Cancer Society, Dr. Phil Foundation, Kiwanis Club, Komen Foundation and more.

As Douglas Scott, president of LDI states: “The pro-life movement will succeed only to the extent that pro-life people are willing to be inconvenienced.” To get a copy of the complete list, contact Life Decisions International, P.O. Box 75161, Washington, DC 20013, 540-631-0380.

Denver archbishop speaks out against Planned Parenthood tax funding

Last week, the Catholic archbishop of Denver, Most Rev. Charles Chaput, wrote a column in the Denver Catholic Register criticizing the new governor of Colorado, Bill Ritter, for his reported efforts to restore funding to Planned Parenthood.

In the article, Archbishop Chaput wrote: “It's hard to have a future 'for our children and our children's children' without children, and in practice, Planned Parenthood specializes in the business of preventing them. Even more troubling is Planned Parenthood's long involvement in abortion 'rights' and the lethal services associated with them."

The archbishop’s comments attracted a great deal of attention because Governor Ritter claims to be a pro-life Catholic.

It is time we stopped the government funding of Planned Parenthood everywhere. Please take a moment and go to www.StopPlannedParenthoodTaxFunding.com and sign the petition against any more taxpayer money going to Planned Parenthood
