“Catholic” Kingston mayor pushing abortions and catering to Planned Parenthood in local hospital merger plan
Kingston, New York has two major hospitals: Kingston Hospital, a secular institution, which permits abortion and other “reproductive services” on its premises; and Benedictine Hospital, a Catholic institution, which does not allow any of these services.
The New York State Commission on Healthcare Facilities in the 21st Century wants these two hospitals to merge and has recommended the New York health commissioner close one of the two hospitals if they do not merge by the end of 2007.
In previous merger discussions, Benedictine Hospital has stood firm in its position against abortion and other reproductive health services. It is this adherence to the Catholic faith that has been blamed for the failure of previous merger discussions.
Now the state commission has recommended a plan that would move the abortions to the Kingston Medical Arts building, which is connected to the hospital facility by an overhead pedestrian bridge.
According to newspaper reports, at a recent public hearing, Clare Coleman, president of Mid-Hudson Planned Parenthood said Planned Parenthood "absolutely opposed" this plan. Not surprisingly, Planned Parenthood believes the services should continue to be available inside Kingston Hospital after the merger. However, Coleman did say that if the separate facility is approved, the pedestrian bridge, which connects the hospital with the Kingston Medical Arts building on the other side of Foxhall Avenue, should be shielded so people crossing it cannot be seen from the street.
The Kingston Daily Freeman describes the mayor of Kingston, James Sottile, as a person who is “Catholic and supports abortion rights.” According to the newspaper, Sottile favors the merger plan and said he thinks the hospitals can come to terms with Planned Parenthood's concerns by simply tinting the windows on the pedestrian bridge.
"Planned Parenthood is very close to this issue," said Sottile, “the fact that they say the (safety) issue may have been overcome if this plan gets in place, I think it would be paramount to this kind of plan going through."
ACTION ITEMS:
- Newspaper accounts report that Dr. Ellis Lader, chairman of the Benedictine Hospital board of directors is in favor of the new plan. We encourage our readers to contact Dr. Lader. First, congratulate him on Benedictine’s past steadfastness. Then, ask him to reject the current plan and to continue to refuse any merger that includes the providing of abortion and other offensive services. You can reach him at: Dr. Ellis Lader, chairman of the board, Benedictine Hospital, 105 Mary's Avenue, Kingston, New York 12401. Phone: 845-338-2500.
- Contact James Sottile and ask him to uphold his Catholic faith and refuse to support any merger that includes abortion “services” – even in an off-site building. His contact information is: Mayor James M. Sottile, 420 Broadway, Kingston, New York 12401. Phone: 845-334-3902; Fax: 845-334-3904.
- Benedictine Hospital is within the archdiocese of New York. Please contact Cardinal Edward Egan and ask him to bring the weight of his office to these proceedings to ensure no agreement is signed that would have the hospital agreeing that abortions can be performed anywhere. You can contact Cardinal Egan at: 1011 First Ave, New York, NY 10022. Phone: 212-371-1011. You can e-mail the cardinal’s delegate for healthcare, Karl P. Adler, M.D
Planned Parenthood holiday poem
It’s the Christmas season and you have probably heard the wonderful poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas many times this year. Perhaps your family even has a tradition of reading it on Christmas Eve.
Well, John Pisciotta, head of the American Life League associate group Pro-Life Waco, has sent us information on how Planned Parenthood in Waco, Texas has taken this venerable Christmas story and is trying to turn it into a fundraiser. In its 2006 Fall/Winter newsletter, Planned Parenthood asks for year-end donations to support its immoral and dangerous agenda. Of course, in Planned Parenthood’s version, there is no mention of Christmas – just more pushing of its products and agenda that are completely against the teachings of Christ.
Here is Planned Parenthood’s version of the Christmas classic, straight from its newsletter:
'Twas just days before year end and all around
Not a heartstring was stirring, there wasn't a sound.
People knew what was missing, they knew what to do
Their generous natures wanted a cause to renew.
They long for a mission of tolerance and choice
They want to help women gain power and voice.
To self-determination they tipped their hat.
But what organization could embody all that?
When outside there arose such a clatter
People ran from their houses to see what was the matter
Only to find our patients shouting "Thank You"
For contraception, exam, and counseling, too.
They said thanks for the condom and Pills by Mail,
For emergency contraception when one method fails.
For offering blood tests and replacement hormones,
For teaching about abstinence and erogenous zones.
So to you we appeal with this witty prose
Could you use a tax write-off as '06 comes to a close?
Let's hear you exclaim as you vow to do good
"I'll write a check now for dear Planned Parenthood."
If this makes you as mad as it does us, then please do something about it. Let people know that, instead of spreading the joy and happiness of the Christmas season, Planned Parenthood is sending out newsletters claiming that it should be thanked for spreading condoms, Plan B, contraception and teaching the children of God about erogenous zones!
Planned Parenthood is a sick organization. Please help us defeat Planned Parenthood in 2007!
Planned Parenthood trying to increase its influence in New Hampshire
Last October, American Life League’s vice president, Jim Sedlak, had the honor of speaking at the annual banquet of New Hampshire Right to Life. It was a tremendous event and Jim met many activists in the area. Before Jim’s arrival, the NHRTL folks had decided to begin a real focus on Planned Parenthood in the state. His talk was intended to set the groundwork for that effort.
Now comes word from New Hampshire that the new state senate president, Sylvia Larsen, in one of her first actions, hired Jennifer Frizzell, a policy strategist who worked for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England since 1999, to work as policy director for the Senate majority.
As Planned Parenthood tries to have a greater influence on legislation, it is in for a big surprise. From what we witnessed at the banquet, we are certain that the efforts of NHRTL, and all those that oppose the Planned Parenthood agenda, will be more than enough to counter the Planned Parenthood thrusts and to begin the demise of Planned Parenthood in that state.
Don’t believe the new Guttmacher study
You may have read that the Guttmacher Institute, an affiliate of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, released last week a new study claiming that 95% of all Americans have had premarital sex. This incredible claim was not only for the current generation, but for all generations born since the 1940s.
The claim is, of course, preposterous.
Before you believe any of this, there are a few things you should know:
- Planned Parenthood is gearing-up for a fight against the abstinence-only message to our children and for an increase in government money for its programs. When this new study was announced, the author, Lawrence Finer, said that it was proof that money spent on the abstinence-only message was a waste and the money would be better spent on contraceptives and comprehensive sex education. A blatant hype of the PP agenda.
- The study claims that its results are from an analysis of interviews of 38,000 people over a 20-year period. There was no objective collection of data, just interviews. Researchers know that one of the least reliable methods of collecting data is the personal interview. People will frequently tell the researcher what they think he wants to hear. Others will embellish their sexual exploits to gain attention. The methodology eliminates any way for other researchers to duplicate the findings. So, the credibility of the entire study rests on the credibility of the organization conducting or interpreting the study. In this case, that organization is Planned Parenthood. ‘Nuff said.
American Life League issued a statement on the study. That statement was covered by many media sources and can be read, among other places, in The Hill, the newspaper for and about the U.S. Congress.

2007 – a holy year in the fight against Planned Parenthood
Christmas was just two days ago; a day on which Christians, who represent an overwhelming majority of the citizens of the United States, marked the arrival of the Savior on earth. Jesus came to bring peace and salvation, but the world rejected him.
Tomorrow, many churches will mark the slaughter of the innocents, a day commemorating the time when Herod murdered all male children, under the age of two, in an attempt to kill the Christ child.
Today, the message of Jesus is being corrupted by many in the world. One of the organizations at the forefront of that corruption is Planned Parenthood. Today, Planned Parenthood continues the slaughter of the innocents – killing over a quarter million babies in its facilities each year. In addition, Planned Parenthood continues to attack our already born children – putting together programs and policies that encourage our children and grandchildren to seek carnal pleasure rather than the love of God.
The extent to which Planned Parenthood corrupts Jesus’ message can be seen in its latest Guttmacher Institute release. It wants the country to accept premarital sex as a way of life; to accept that it is normal to defy the word of God and to seek pleasure in our human passions rather than striving for the eternal pleasures of heaven; to accept sin as normal.
As we enter 2007, Planned Parenthood is excited. It hasn’t been this excited since Bill Clinton was first elected president. More so than in many years, Planned Parenthood feels part of the “in” crowd. Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, is a former member of the staff of Nancy Pelosi – the new speaker of the House of Representatives. Cecile is bringing Planned Parenthood to the table with all the leaders of the culture of death in America. Just the other day, it was reported that Cecile had lunch in New York City with Sen. Hillary Clinton, Walter Cronkite, Bette Midler and Marlo Thomas.
Planned Parenthood is set to move forward aggressively in 2007 and we must be ready to move forward just as aggressively to stop its plans. We here at American Life League are rededicating ourselves to an all out affront on Planned Parenthood this year. We will be increasing our efforts in this fight.
We know that it will not be us, but the Lord who will win final victory over Planned Parenthood. A study of Planned Parenthood’s operations shows clearly that it is doing the work of Lucifer – attempting to capture as many souls as possible by enticing people, especially our children, into pursuing sins of the flesh.
If we are to move forward this year, we need a multitude of prayer warriors storming heaven with prayers that God will use the actions of people all across the United States to bring ruin upon Planned Parenthood. We need every organization fighting Planned Parenthood to establish a prayer support group for their efforts. We need every bishop, every priest, every pastor, and every religious to offer prayers for the success of the efforts against Planned Parenthood.
With the combined actions of the hundreds of people fighting Planned Parenthood and the graces that God will send as an answer to the prayers, 2007 will be a holy year in the fight against Planned Parenthood. We will move forward with peaceful, prayerful actions, in imitation of Jesus Christ, and Planned Parenthood will not be able to stand before the righteous army.
