Planned Parenthood beginning to self-destruct
We were putting the final touches on this week’s Wednesday STOPP Report last night when we received word of a speech Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s president, Cecile Richards, made yesterday at the “Take Back America” conference in Washington, DC.
The Cybercast News Service released a story on its web site today in which we are quoted.
It is not new news that Planned Parenthood wants to see pro-abortion candidates elected. But, until now, Planned Parenthood has tried to portray the image that all of its real political work is being done by its lobbying arm – the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
But this speech changes all that. It has been reported that in this speech, Cecile Richards said PP intends to use the employees and staff of its 860 clinics across the country to work for the election of candidates it supports.
If that is indeed accurate, that is an apparent violation of PPFA’s tax-exempt status. If Planned Parenthood’s president was quoted correctly regarding PP’s efforts to elect candidates, we believe the IRS and Congress will have no choice but to recognize that PP is in fact a political organization that is prevented by law from receiving taxpayer money and retaining tax exempt status.
We encourage all of you to make the CNS story public and to call for action by politicians to take funds and tax-exempt status away from Planned Parenthood.
We believe that this talk by Richards could be the beginning of the destruction of Planned Parenthood – as the truth about its nature becomes known.
We will bring you additional information on all of this over the next few weeks and we ask that you send any stories or reports concerning all of this to stopp@all.org. Please pray that God will use this to put an end to Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood loses key South Dakota primary
In March, Planned Parenthood Federation of America gave its Barry Goldwater Award to Dr. Stan Adelstein, a state senator in South Dakota. Planned Parenthood gives the award to Republican elected officials who support abortion.
Dr. Adelstein has been a real force in promoting abortion in South Dakota. He was known to have funded the election campaigns of a number of other pro-abort politicians. After the state passed its abortion ban, Adelstein became the spokesperson for the coalition fighting to overturn the law.
Adelstein was up for reelection this year. A solidly pro-life Republican, Elli Schwiesow, challenged Adelstein. A major part of the election was the abortion ban – with Adelstein claiming the law was too harsh and Schwiesow refusing to back down one iota from defending the lives of every single baby. In the June 6 primary, Schwiesow defeated Adelstein and handed Planned Parenthood a major defeat.
Planned Parenthood loses all over South Dakota
In the previous item, we talked about a major victory in the South Dakota primary elections. Of course that was not the only contest in the primaries. Many of the elected officials who voted in favor of the law were facing opposition from the other side.
In a stunning vote that literally left Planned Parenthood speechless, all of the legislators who voted for the abortion ban and who were facing primary challenges won their races. Not one was defeated.
In addition, four of the legislators who had voted against the abortion ban lost their primary races.
The people of South Dakota spoke very loudly. They are pleased with what their elected officials did.
Of course, this does not mean that the vote in November to uphold the law is a sure thing. Planned Parenthood and others are going to be pouring millions of dollars into South Dakota to win the referendum. We all must continue to pray for the people in South Dakota and to give them all the help they need. At the request of South Dakotans, American Life League will be in the state several times over the next few months educating the general public on the sacredness of all human life and why no baby should ever be killed.
Planned Parenthood loses in Florida
In Manatee County, Florida, Planned Parenthood had requested $10,000 from the county to fund an “educational outreach” program. When pro-lifers heard about the request, they began educating the county commissioners about Planned Parenthood.
The Bradenton Herald newspaper described the meeting at which the Planned Parenthood funding was discussed as “the most emotionally charged debate over $10,000 the county has seen in recent times.”
In the end, the commissioners voted 5-1 to deny the funding to Planned Parenthood.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this effort to stop Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood loses in Alabama
Planned Parenthood usually wins its court battles, but it has lost a big one in Alabama. As the Associated Press reported, the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals reversed a lower court ruling that had blocked a lawsuit filed by a woman on behalf of herself and her child. In a decision released May 26, the appeals court said the woman can sue Planned Parenthood of Alabama on behalf of her child.
According to published reports the woman went to the Planned Parenthood abortuary in Birmingham to have her child killed. But, Planned Parenthood failed to kill the child and she was later born with a number of injuries.
Planned Parenthood did not issue any comment on the case and is reportedly determining whether or not to appeal this ruling.
Planned Parenthood being protested across the country
Planned Parenthood attracts a crowd. When it opened its Express Clinic in an upscale mall in Woodbury, Minnesota, hundreds of pro-lifers demonstrated against its being there. When it tried to have a sex education program called Teen Savvy for youth in Dallas, Texas, area pro-lifers turned out in big numbers to call attention to PP’s attack on our children. When Planned Parenthood wants to do abortions quietly in Fairbanks, Alaska, pro-lifers gather, even in the middle of winter, in front of the shopping center and called attention to the deaths occurring inside.
In community after community all across the nation, Planned Parenthood is witnessing the activism of dedicated pro-lifers who are not afraid to publicly stand up for what they believe. And many have had a tremendous impact on Planned Parenthood activities, often seeing the PP facilities close down or move.
We at American Life League are in regular contact with pro-lifers in over 100 cities in which Planned Parenthood is regularly picketed and actively opposed. We encourage everyone to begin these activities in your community. We are here to help.
Just contact us and we can discuss your situation and advise you on what you can do to successfully oppose Planned Parenthood.
