Planned Parenthood renews push for mandatory sex education

Back in 1986, Faye Wattleton, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, announced that Planned Parenthood had a corporate goal of mandatory K-12 comprehensive sex education in every school district in the nation.

Over the years, Planned Parenthood has seen this initiative stall, but it has never wavered from its goal. Now, 20 years later, we see increased evidence that PP is pushing sex education very hard this year. Planned Parenthood has adopted a number of “value statements” on various topics. Its “value statement” on teens and sexual activity is: “Young people explore their sexuality as part of a process of achieving sexual maturity; adolescents are capable of expressing their sexuality in healthy, responsible ways.”

As part of its efforts to trap young people into exploring their sexuality, PP is pushing hard for mandatory sex education. For example:

  • Planned Parenthood in Indiana has launched Get Real, Indiana! It's an effort “calling for medically accurate, comprehensive sex education for all Indiana students.” Of course, what PP means by medically accurate is its brand of sex education designed to lure children into a sexual lifestyle and get them to buy birth control products.

  • In New York, Planned Parenthood is aggressively pushing its brand of sex education. It currently is advocating for the Healthy Teens Act that would allow communities that want to teach comprehensive sex education to apply for state grants to develop the program. The act was approved by the Assembly in April but has not yet been put on the Senate agenda for action.

  • In Massachusetts, in a speech to the Wellesley Kiwanis Club, Angus McQuilken, director of public relations and governmental affairs for Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts, said the top priority for Planned Parenthood this year is "comprehensive sex education in public schools."

These are just a few of the initiatives being pushed by Planned Parenthood. All those who oppose PP should be reviewing what is happening at your state house and fighting against any attempt to mandate sex education.

Child predator effort report from Poughkeepsie

One result of the sexualization of our youth through PP’s sex education programs is the number of young girls who are accepting of sex with older men. A California study done a number of years ago showed that most 11, 12 and 13 year old girls who are having sex are doing so with men who are 10 years older. That, of course, is statutory rape in every state.

Rather than aggressively trying to stop this victimization of our children. Planned Parenthood offers confidential services and asserts “medical privacy” to shield these rapists from identification and prosecution.

A number of people across the country are focusing on Planned Parenthood’s protection of these rapists and child abusers. One group, Mid-Hudson STOPP in Poughkeepsie, New York is making this its area of concentration. Helen Westover, leader of Mid-Hudson STOPP (and one of the co-founders of the original STOPP in 1985) sent the following report of their efforts to hold Planned Parenthood accountable.

On May 12, 2006, members of Mid-Hudson STOPP, represented by Dennis Maloney, Pat Messina, Ken Shimansky, Vincent Ferro, Linda Cebrian, and myself demonstrated at the Grand Hotel in Poughkeepsie. The occasion was a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center, and was attended by Assemblyman Joel Miller.

The reason was the center's failure to speak up for all abused children; those who fall through the cracks because Planned Parenthood will not report these incidents of child abuse. The center, when we first contacted it, admitted that this was an egregious situation, and that the purpose was to fight just this kind of evasion in reporting. We asked them to help us support Senator Steve Saland's effort to plug the apparent hole PP was hiding in. They were aware of this, and at the time, they agreed to look into it. They agreed that their clout would make a huge difference. We gave them our literature, and we left feeling that they would speak out. Apparently, politics got in the way.

After our initial contact with the Child Advocacy Center, I waited a while, and then e-mailed them; that was followed by numerous phone calls. There was no response. I even tried to contact my old friend, Barbara O'Dell, at her home. When there was no response even then, I left a message on her voice mail, expressing my bafflement at the lack of contact, and I then suggested that perhaps there was a conflict of interest, since Joel Miller's wife is connected to the Child Advocacy Center: Miller is one of Planned Parenthood's most devoted supporters.

The next day there were two messages on my Caller ID from Miller. I returned his call, but never heard from him.

I had mixed feelings about this picket. Years ago, I benefited from the center's support groups for adults who had been abused as children. I am a survivor of such abuse, and I owe much to the center for their help. I found them to be energetic advocates for abused children, and fully equipped to provide all sorts of services for both children and adults. They have state-of-the art resources to help children deal with their experiences, and to assist families in need of intervention. And yet the worst example of failure to report is right down the street from their offices, and politics is apparently being allowed to cripple their efforts. This cannot stand. PP has been abusing kids for a generation by "education" which sexualizes children beginning in kindergarten, and then reaps the benefit when these kids come to their faux "clinics" with STDs, pregnancy and all the emotional problems that afflict them as a result.

Mid-Hudson STOPP is not only anti-abortion. We are a parents' rights organization, made up of many parents whose children have been afflicted by PP. And here we have a proved case of PP's refusal to report incest and exploitation of minors by older men. Those who should be in the forefront to protect these kids, like the Child Advocacy Center, turn their backs on them.

We will not rest until this abomination is addressed by the people who should care. I wish to thank all of you who have been financially supporting us in this effort. Without your support, the signs could not have been made, literature could not have been purchased. Anyone who wants to support this struggle can send your gifts to Mid-Hudson STOPP, 19 Peckham Rd. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

We encourage people everywhere in the country to get involved in revealing the truth about Planned Parenthood and its protection of child predators. You can find more information at www.childpredators.com.

Upcoming Planned Parenthood events

If all these attacks on our children are upsetting to you, you can begin to call attention to Planned Parenthood by demonstrating at its fundraising and other events. • Easthampton, New York – May 27 – East End Benefit 2006 – A fundraising benefit for Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic. Held at the Easthampton Estate of Patsy and Jeff Tarr from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm. The highlight of the evening will be the Portraits for Choice auction, led by Christie Brinkley. Participants will have the chance to bid on a portrait of themselves, their family, a pet or beloved object created by one of today's top artists.

Again, we encourage you to demonstrate at these events. We’re sure the Tarrs, for example, would just be delighted to have pictures of aborted babies displayed prominently at the entrance to their Easthampton estate – what a great chance to educate the community on PP Hudson Peconic’s killing business at its four surgical abortion facilities.

Web support services

It used to be that a pro-life group could operate with a telephone and a fax machine. Those days, however, are long gone. In today’s world, if you are going to be able to fight the sex education programs and other efforts of Planned Parenthood, you must have a presence on the internet. This means you must have a web site – especially if you hope to attract younger supporters.

STOPP has been contacted by a pro-life college professor who teaches computer science and has been involved in creating award winning web sites for many years. He wanted us to let you know that he is available to create or improve web sites for pro-life groups, churches or individuals at a very reasonable price.

Having a functional, well structured web site has become critical in getting the message to the general public and attracting new people, especially young people, into your local efforts. If you would like to explore having the professor design or update your web site, please send an e-mail to us at stopp@all.org and put the words “Web Help” in the subject line. Please include your name and a phone number where the professor can contact you.

The professor is wrapping up his courses for this semester this week. He will have time during the summer to take on a great deal of work, so this is the ideal time to get him started on your site.
