Planned Parenthood targeting minorities
Many people are aware of Planned Parenthood’s targeting of the black community in the 1930s. PP actually instituted the “Negro Project” in an effort to convince black families in the south that their children were the cause of their poverty. PP worked very hard to convince blacks not to have children. Many PP affiliates in the south date their existence to this time period.
Since the 1980s, Planned Parenthood has increasingly turned its attention to Latino and other immigrant communities. The message that Planned Parenthood sends to these teens is that the “traditional values” of their culture were good for the old country, but now that they are in America they need to adopt new values. These new values, of course, are Planned Parenthood values.
This week has seen a great deal of focus on immigrants and Planned Parenthood has used the occasion to highlight its many programs that target minorities.
Those fighting Planned Parenthood need to be aware of these programs so you can work actively to oppose them. In the next item we will give you a list of some of the programs PP uses to target minorities. Then we will give you a list of resources you can use to reach out with the truth to the Spanish-speaking people.
Specific Planned Parenthood programs
We present to you a partial list of Planned Parenthood programs that target minority communities with the message of uninhibited sex, birth control and abortion.
- Planned Parenthood of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle — In an effort to save its operations, this affiliate, that has been forced to close down 17 of its 19 clinics in the last nine years, has now opened a one-day-a-week clinic in Cactus, Texas, which has more undocumented than documented people and is predominantly an immigrant community.
- Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma — This affiliate particularly tries to lure the Latino community to its Tulsa facilities and has a “mobile health center” to seek out the immigrants. Its web site pushes sex on young Latinos
- Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina — North Carolina has one of the fastest growing Latino populations in the country. Planned Parenthood is aggressively targeting this community and advertises abortions, in Spanish, on its web site. It tells the Latino community that discounts on abortions are available with a military or student ID or for those that are Medicaid eligible (“Planned Parenthood ofrece Descuentos - ID militar, ID de estudiante, o tarjeta de Medicaid vigentes. Si viaja desde más de 50 millas”).
- Planned Parenthood of Central Washington — PP in Washington is targeting immigrants through a non-citizen family planning grant that extends the state's Medicaid waiver to immigrants. The program is called "Cuidase."
- Planned Parenthood Golden Gate — PP targets thousands of Spanish-speaking immigrants in the Bay Area. It claims to work with migrant farm workers, day laborers, youth and parents, and political refugees.
- Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa — Although less than 2 percent of its clients are Latino, PP targets undocumented, non-English-speaking, Latino immigrants in the inner city and conducts evening clinics for migrant farm workers.
- Planned Parenthood of Greater Miami, Palm Beach and Treasure Coast — This affiliate has a program for the Latino community that it calls “La Promesa” (The Promise). According to PP, La Promesa's Spanish-speaking educators assist families in learning how to openly discuss complicated topics such as breast cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and responsible sexual behavior. Of course, what they teach is Planned Parenthood’s version of “responsible” behavior.
- Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts — PP targets the Brazilian community living in central Massachusetts with “emergency contraception.” Its website also recommends It’s Perfectly Normal, in Spanish, for 10-14 year old children.
- Planned Parenthood Mar Monte — PP offers a sex ed book in Spanish, Hablemos Acerca Del S-E-X-O (Let’s Talk About S-E-X), that contains the usual PP philosophies on sex. It is intended for children age 9-12. It also offers many programs in Spanish, including an outreach to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Questioning youth.
- Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota — PP has a program, Entre Amigas (Between Friends) to train Latina women to bring Planned Parenthood’s messages on sex to the Spanish-speaking community.
- Planned Parenthood of Nebraska and Council Bluffs — This affiliate runs a “Facts of LifeLine” in Spanish. In addition, PP targets Latina immigrant women.
- Planned Parenthood of New York City — The Bronx Immigrant Outreach Project targets the sexual and reproductive health care to Latino and African immigrant populations in the Bronx.
- Planned Parenthood of Northern New England — PP has increased services to clients with limited English proficiency, including Latino, Vietnamese, Somali and Sudanese women.
- Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region — Rochester PP targets Latina youth and has much of its website in Spanish – including an extensive page, "Sólo para adolescentes" (Just for Teens). It brags that it has increased in the number of Latino participants in its education programming by 10 to 20 percent.
- Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties — Because of its location on the Mexican border, PPSDRC targets a wide range of its programs at the Latino community.
- Planned Parenthood of Southern Arizona — PP says it collaborates with school districts to provide sexuality education to middle-school boys and girls of Mexican descent.
- Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region — PP runs a Latino Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care Access Program that includes a 24-hour Spanish-language information line.
- Planned Parenthood Trust of San Antonio and South Central Texas — With a Latino majority in San Antonio, PP designs all of its programs to target the Latino population. All nine of its facilities see immigrant clients, and all of its community education work targets the immigrant population.
Resources to use in reaching Spanish-speaking people
Clearly, Planned Parenthood is targeting the Spanish-speaking segment of our population all across the country. We must bring the truth to this population so they are not trapped by Planned Parenthood’s lies.
To assist you in reaching the Spanish-speaking community with the pro-life message, American Life League offers over two dozen resources in Spanish. Among the shirts, signs, literature and stickers are several educational materials on Planned Parenthood, including the Spanish versions of “Why do we oppose Planned Parenthood?” and “Planned Parenthood steals souls,” as well as a “PP roba almas” picket sign.
You can see, and purchase, the whole line of Spanish language material online.
