As we publish this issue of the Wednesday STOPP Report, Planned Parenthood Federation of America is aggressively waging campaigns on a number of fronts. This week, we ask you to take action to counter Planned Parenthood's initiatives
Planned Parenthood and Judge Alito
Planned Parenthood has joined with other radical pro-abortion groups to run millions of dollars worth of ads and to energize its base to defeat the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito as the next justice of the Supreme Court.
We are encouraging all STOPPers to work for the approval of Judge Alito. We are aware that there are some pro-life groups who are questioning his pro-life credentials, but as more and more information is emerging, we are convinced that he is the type of person we want on the court. Within the next week, we will have a web page to give you information on Alito and a petition that you can sign that is addressed to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The web address is: www.ApproveAlito.com.
Once the site is up, we ask that you spread the word and get all your friends to also sign the petition. Hearings for Alito are currently scheduled to begin January 9, so you have seven weeks to express your support.
Planned Parenthood focuses on Target stores
Planned Parenthood is currently conducting a campaign to get Target stores to force their pharmacists to dispense prescriptions for drugs, like Plan B, that kill babies in the womb. Currently, pharmacists at Target are free to act according to their consciences and not dispense lethal drugs.
You may recall that, for years, Target was a supporter of Planned Parenthood. But it stopped giving to PP a couple of years ago and, obviously, PP is still mad.
We encourage all STOPPers to stop by your local Target store and thank the management for allowing pharmacists to dispense prescriptions according to their consciences. Let them know that you will be shopping at Target this Christmas season precisely because they have refused to cave in to Planned Parenthood.
While you are at it, we encourage you to get a list from Life Decisions International of all companies that do support Planned Parenthood and avoid shopping with them.
Planned Parenthood continues attack on abstinence-only message
Although telling kids that they should refrain from all sexual activity has been around for centuries, Planned Parenthood changed things in the last half of the 20th century. Starting in the 1950s, PP began advocating sex education in the schools. It got very aggressive in the 1970s and 1980s. The result was a tremendous increase in teen sexual activity and teen pregnancy.
Then, in the 1990s, Americans started pushing a return to the abstinence-only message to our children. This is, of course, the same type of message we give to the kids about smoking, drugs and drunk driving. We tell them to just say NO to all these activities and we finally began telling them to just say no to sex. The result has been a dramatic decline in teen sexual activity and teen pregnancies.
Of course, teens who do not engage in sexual activity do not provide any income to Planned Parenthood. So, PP is adamant about stopping the abstinence-only message.
You can help our teens by insisting that your local school district abandon all "comprehensive" and "age-appropriate" sex education and, instead, give a clear message to our children that they are expected to say NO to any sexual activity.
If you need help in convincing your school board to back this message, we invite you to get a copy of our book Parent Power (order from our resource department: 866-LET-LIVE).
Planned Parenthood pushing OTC status for Plan B
Planned Parenthood is continuing to push for over-the-counter status for Plan B, the so-called emergency contraceptive that works some of the time by killing human persons in the womb. Once again, PP has a large financial stake in this decision - expecting to make millions if OTC status is given.
STOPPers are encouraged to educate your churches and other organizations on the dangers to preborn life of EC in general and Plan B in particular. The general public needs to know the truth. You can obtain copies of our Emergency Contraception brochure by calling our resource department (866-538-5483).
Learn how to defeat Planned Parenthood on FREE tele-seminars
STOPP is expanding its efforts to educate you about the problems with Planned Parenthood - and how to defeat its dangerous agenda - with a series of ground-breaking tele-seminars. These will be one-hour live events where you can call in from any phone in the country to hear an interview with one of the top leaders in the fight against Planned Parenthood. Each seminar will focus on a specific topic and will be recorded for people who are unable to participate in the call. Each seminar will be provided to you at no charge, and the only possible cost would be your long distance charge for the telephone call.
Our current plan is to have one tele-seminar a month. We want to cover the topics that are most important to you and have the calls at a time that is convenient for you. To help us plan these seminars, please send us an e-mail and answer the following questions (you can cut and paste the questions in your e-mail and then just provide your answers:
- What subject would you most like us to cover (rate from 1-5: 1 being most important, 5 being least important)?
- ___ Fighting PP sex education
- ___ Fighting PP government funding
- ___ Analysis of PP's business
- ___ Boycotting corporate contributors to PP
- ___ Arousing your community against PP
- ___ Other
- What would be the best day and time (Eastern time zone) for the tele-seminar?
- ___ Weekday during the day
- ___ Weekday in the evening
- ___ Saturday
- ___ Sunday
We are planning to do our first tele-seminar in December, so please let us know your answers to these questions, and any other thoughts you have on this effort, as soon as possible.
Thank you.
