Planned Parenthood gets $50,000 taxpayer money in New York state

The Community Capital Assistance Program, which receives its funding from New York State's $250 million Regional Economic Development Program, gave a total of $50,000 to a joint project of two Planned Parenthood affiliates. The funds will be used to purchase a new RV so Planned Parenthood can spread its ideology to communities in and surrounding the counties of Erie and Niagara.

According to news reports, the Planned Parenthood Mobile Outreach Unit, established in 2001, is funded by the New York State Department of Health, and within the last two years has received additional funding from the entire Western New York Assembly Delegation, the Western New York Foundation, and the John R. Oishei Foundation. The project is a partnership between Planned Parenthood of Buffalo & Erie County and Planned Parenthood of Niagara County.

Planned Parenthood gets taxpayer dollars for birth control in Washington state

All clinics of Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest as well as Mount Baker Planned Parenthood clinics are members of Washington State's Take Charge program. According to published reports, Take Charge began five years ago as a trial program aiming to show the federal government that paying to prevent pregnancies would be cheaper than paying for the pregnancies of low-income women.

Take Charge provides "free" (i.e., taxpayer funded) contraceptive health care to women without health insurance who earn less than $1,600 per month. That means "free" birth control, "free" annual gynecological exams and even tubal ligation for some.

It appears the results of these programs have been dramatic. Sexually Transmitted Diseases have become a great concern for health providers in Washington State; where 15 to 19-year-olds have the highest chlamydia and the second highest gonorrhea rates in the nation, at about 3 percent. These numbers have been rising in recent years.

Planned Parenthood's response is predictable. PP claims the rise can be attributed to deficient sex education!

Top Planned Parenthood affiliates in taxpayer funding

Planned Parenthood Federation of America received a total of $265.2 million in taxpayer money in its 2003-2004 fiscal year. The represents 32.7 percent of its total income. Since 1987, PP has received $3.6 billion in taxpayer money, which is 39 percent of its total $9.2 billion income over those same years. Thus, taxpayer funding is extremely important in order for Planned Parenthood to survive.

The five PPFA affiliates that received the highest amounts of government money in 2003 were:

  • Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (California) — $9,651,069
  • Planned Parenthood Golden Gate (California) — $8,462,541
  • Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Inc. (New York) — $8,062,363
  • Planned Parenthood of New York City, Inc. (New York) — $6,206,915
  • Planned Parenthood Health Services of Southwestern Oregon — $6,046,858

How to end Planned Parenthood's taxpayer funding

As we enter the month of October, a month when many government entities are putting together or approving their spending for next year, we encourage all those against Planned Parenthood to get every single penny of taxpayer money taken away from Planned Parenthood. Call your elected officials, attend budget meetings and let your displeasure be known.

Across the United States, taxpayers are objecting to the continued government funding of Planned Parenthood. Several states (including Colorado, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Texas) either do not give any money to Planned Parenthood or have begun significantly reducing taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. In addition, many cities, counties and other government entities have cut off support for Planned Parenthood.

STOPP has been working to end the government funding of Planned Parenthood for years. We are here to assist anyone who wants to end taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood in their community or state. For starters, you can read our strategy online on at Defeating Government Funding of PP.

If you would rather have the information in a printed booklet, you can get a copy of our 11-page booklet that has been used successfully by opponents of Planned Parenthood all across the country.

To order a copy, you can go to our pro-life store or call our Resource Department toll-free at 866-LET-LIVE.

Once you have digested the basics, call us at 540-659-4171 or e-mail STOPP@ALL.org and we will be happy to work with you throughout your fight. To defeat Planned Parenthood, we MUST keep it away from our children and away from our money. Now is the time to begin (or continue) attacking taxpayer funding of PP in your community.

Immediate action needed

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this month, many well-meaning people are encouraging donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. It is well documented that the Komen Foundation gives hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to Planned Parenthood (see Pro-Life Waco). Any time you hear Komen praised on a radio program or in the papers, please call or write and expose the Planned Parenthood connection.
